TipRanks serves as a comprehensive investment tool, aggregating stock ratings and tracking the performance of analysts. TipRanks crunches data so investors can act on insights. Investors can use TipRanks to generate trade ideas, perform market research and manage portfolios. TipRanks is available in the Interactive Brokers Discover Tool and Fundamentals Explorer.
How to use TipRanks in the IBKR Discover Tool
The TipRanks screen in the Discover Tool consists of a stock screener and six lists that can be sorted and filtered to drill down for specific stocks or ETFs. The TipRanks lists are:
- Top Analyst Stocks
- Top ETFs by Smart Score
- Top Insider Stocks
- Top Smart Score Stocks, and
- Trending Stocks
Using the TipRanks Stock Screener
The investor can use the interactive stock screener to filter and sort by several categories including but not limited to Price Target Upside, Sector, and News Sentiment. The filters are located at the top of the screener. By clicking on the drop-down box, the investor can select multiple qualifiers in which to screen for. For example, the investor chooses “Upside 5 – 10%” in the Price Target drop down, Consumer Cyclical and Consumer Defensive in the Sector drop down, and Moderate Buy and Strong Buy in the Analyst Consensus. The investor can unclick a qualifier or click the red x in the drop-down box when more than one qualifier has been selected.
Editing the data columns in the TipRanks Stock Screener
The investor can pick which data columns they would like to display in the screener. On the left-hand side of the screener underneath the filter boxes is the “Select Column” drop-down. Click on the box to show the columns available. Click on any of the boxes next to the description to add the column.
The results can be sorted by column clicking on the up and down arrows next to the column title and the investor can sort through the pages by clicking on the left and right arrows in the upper right-hand side.
Seeing the TipRanks “Smart Score”
If the investor clicks on a symbol the Smart Score screen will appear for that underlying. The Smart Score is a proprietary quantitative stock scoring system that ranks each stock from 1-10. The score is listed at the top with stocks ranked 1-3 ranked Underperform, 4-7 are ranked Neutral and 8-10 are ranked Overperform.
Below the Smart Score is a breakout of each of the eight contributors:
- Analyst Consensus
- Blogger Sentiment
- Hedge Fund Trend
- Insider Transactions
- Crowd Wisdom
- News Sentiment
- Technicals, and
- Fundamentals
Hover the mouse over the information icon to see a definition of the contributor.
The Stock and ETFs Lists
As mentioned earlier the Interactive Brokers Discover Tool’s TipRanks screen includes six predefined watchlists that can be sorted and filtered.
- The Top Analysts Stocks Watchlist shows stocks with a strong buy or strong sell rating.
- Top ETFs by Smart Score allows the investor to filter ETFs by Smart Score.
- Top ETFs by Upside highlights equity ETFs projected to maintain their upward trajectory.
- Top Insider Stocks is comprised of stocks that exhibit strong buys based on insiders’ trading.
- Top Smart Score Stocks shows stocks with the highest Smart Score, and
- Trending Stocks is a list of stocks that are actively being discussed and rated by analysts.
Sorting a TipRanks defined list
Each of the TipRanks six predefined Watchlists have filters in which the investor can further narrow down the list of stocks or ETFs. Some of the lists give the investor the ability to choose which data columns to display as well. For example, in the TipRanks Top Analysts Stocks Watchlist the investor can filter for Stock Rating, Market Cap, and Sector, and select which data columns they would like to view.
Like the Scanner the investor can click on the left and right arrow to view the results and click on the up and down arrow next to the column header to sort by each column.
TipRanks provides comprehensive research for stocks and ETFs and is available in the Interactive Brokers’ Discover Tool and Fundamental Analysis Tool
