Japan’s transition away from decades of ultra-low and negative interest rates is changing the way global investors think about Japanese fixed income. Rising yields, evolving Bank of Japan policy and increased volatility are creating new risks and opportunities for bond investors, asset allocators, family offices and macro traders. Understanding how to manage duration and Japanese rates exposure has therefore become increasingly important.

This webinar will focus on SGX Mini JGB Futures and their role in managing and expressing views on Japanese long-term interest rates. We will examine how the contract can be used for portfolio hedging, tactical duration positioning and cross-market relative-value strategies, while also discussing the benefits of smaller contract sizing, cash settlement and extended trading access. Particular attention will be given to managing Japanese rates risk during periods when the domestic market is unavailable, as well as to practical risk-based position sizing and chart analysis.

Outline

  • Why Japanese interest rates have become an active source of portfolio risk and opportunity again
  • Understanding duration risk and the role of Mini JGB Futures
  • Why smaller contract size, cash settlement and extended trading access can matter to global investors
  • Practical applications: bond portfolio hedging, Japan exposure and US/Japan relative-value positioning
  • From macro rates view to risk-based sizing, market analysis and practical implementation
