ForecastEx added new prediction market contracts this morning to capture the expected changes in weather patterns though the Northeast this weekend and in Hawaii in the next several days. The nor’easter storm and Hurricane Nola are projected to lift wind speeds in the upcoming few hours, and when comparing the probabilities of cities across Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island, Nantucket is likely to feel it the most, with a 52% chance of exceeding 57 miles per hour (MPH) by midnight tonight. Martha’s Vineyard, New York City, Providence and Boston are anticipated to experience lighter but still significant impacts, as there are 46%, 45%, 44% and 29% likelihoods of seeing speeds faster than 53, 44, 42 and 41 MPH, according to the Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets. For these Northeastern environmental instruments, expirations are currently available for today and tomorrow.
For Hurricane Nolo, a storm that is also expected to affect Hawaii this weekend, the highest wind gusts are anticipated to be felt in Hilo, at a 35% probability. Kahului and Honolulu are at 28% and 25%, meanwhile, when analyzing choices across Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets. These contracts expire on Oct. 15, however.
