Investors can use the Interactive Brokers’ Client Portal to request trading permissions for stocks, options, futures and more, as well as subscribe to various live streaming Market Data and Research subscriptions.

To access the Settings page of Client Portal, select the Head & Shoulders icon in the upper right corner and then Settings. The Settings page is broken out by Account Settings on the left hand side of the page and User Settings on the right hand side.

Trading Permissions

Under Account Settings, locate the Trading section and select Trading Permissions. The Trading Permissions page will allow the investor to request trading permissions for any products and markets they would like to trade. The investor will select the Add/Edit or Request button on the product they wish to trade. The following page will allow the investor to select the locations they wish to trade the specified product. Select the check boxes next to any desired locations and select Continue at the bottom of the page. On the following page, the investor can review the requested changes and any disclosures, sign their name and select Continue to submit the request.

Please note that various criteria including financial information, investment experience and objectives are collected to create your Financial Profile, which in turn, is used when determining whether to approve accounts for trading permissions. IBKR does not disclose the eligibility requirements for any products. Investors can ensure their Financial Profile is up to date and accurate in the Account Settings.

Market Data Subscriptions

By default, investors will receive free delayed market data for available exchanges. Investors have the ability to request snapshot data from multiple exchanges worldwide. This request will provide a static quote for the instrument. U.S. listed equities are $0.01 per quote request and all other instruments are $0.03 per quote request. As a courtesy, accounts will receive a waiver of $1.00 per month for snapshot quotes.

Alternatively, investors can subscribe to real-time streaming market data through the Client Portal. Under User Settings locate the Trading Platform section and select Market Data Subscriptions. The Market Data Subscriptions page will display any active subscriptions under Current GFIS Subscriptions. Select the blue Configure gear icon to manage the market data. The subscriptions are broken out by market location reflected as tabs and each tab has sub-sections underneath to categorize the available subscriptions. To add a subscription, check the box next to the desired product and to remove or cancel an existing subscription, click to uncheck the box. When ready, click continue to review the selected subscriptions and acknowledge and sign any applicable agreements and disclosures. Click Continue until a confirmation page is reached. Once a subscription is active, the delayed market data will be replaced with the real-time quotes.

Note that market data subscriptions are charged on a per user basis and are not prorated for the month. If the user decides to subscribe in the middle of the month, they will pay the fee for the entire month as listed on the page. If the user is unsubscribing in the middle of the month, they will continue to see the data for the rest of the month and will no longer have access to the data on the 1st of the following month. In order to subscribe and maintain market data and research subscriptions, the investor will need to fund their account with $500 (or non-USD equivalent), in addition to the cost of any subscriptions.

Research Subscriptions

In addition to market data, Interactive Brokers also offers access to dozens of free and premium market research and news providers. Investors can also subscribe to additional, a la cart research and news through the Client Portal. Under the Trading Platform section of User Settings, select Research Subscriptions. Next to Current GFIS Subscriptions, select the Configure gear icon and the list of available research and news providers will populate. Click the blue information icon to the right for more information on a particular subscription. Check or uncheck the box to the left of the desired research or news subscriptions and click continue until a confirmation page is reached.

For more information on the research or news offerings, please see our website.

I would like to trade ADRs, what class of permission would I need to have ?

    • Interactive Brokers

Hello Gordon, thank you for asking. If the ADR (American Depositary Receipt) you are looking to trade is traded on a major exchange, then all you need is US Stock trading permissions in order to be eligible to trade ADRs through Interactive Brokers. Simply place the symbol for the ADR into your TWS, Client Portal or IBKR Mobile and trade it as you would any other stock. https://www.ibkr.com/faq?id=28225017 We hope this answers your question!

Log into your Interactive Brokers Client Portal.
Click on the User menu (head and shoulders icon) in the top right corner and select Settings.
Under User Settings, go to Trading Platform and select Market Data Subscriptions.
Click the Configure (gear) icon next to Subscriptions to modify your subscriptions.
Select the US trading region and use the checkboxes to subscribe to OPRA market data.
Click Continue to review and confirm your request.
Once subscribed, you will start receiving real-time market data for US options.

Please ensure that you have the proper trading permissions. Your ability to trade specific products will depend on your financial profile (e.g. age, liquid net worth, investment objectives, product knowledge and prior trading experience). • Fares

    Hello
I am connected to my ibkr account with ninjatrader8 via the IB Gateway but I was not able to obtain market data for futures contracts. I received this following error message:
Error on requesting bars series: ‘historical market data service error message: No market data permissions for cbot CME FUT’.
I would like to trade the micro futures MYM, MNQ, MES and M2K indices.
When I want to subscribe for market data futures I cannot find an indication.
Please how I can solve this problem.
    Thanks

    • Interactive Brokers

Hello, thank you for reaching out. To receive real-time futures data in NinjaTrader connected to an IBKR account, you need to enable market data subscriptions for the specific futures contracts you want to trade. This can be done in Client Portal by going to Settings > Account Settings > Market Data Subscriptions. Select the exchange(s) and specific futures contracts to subscribe to. Once enabled, the real-time data should flow through to NinjaTrader. Without a subscription, only snapshot/delayed data is available. Please view this webpage for more information: https://spr.ly/IBKRMarketDataCampus

    Hello,

I wish to trade XAUUSD in my IBKR account. How do I understand if I haVE DATA SUBSCRIPTION AND TRADING PERMISSIONS FOR THIS ASSET?

Hello, thank you for reaching out. You can use the Market Data Assistant in Client Portal to select the appropriate market data subscription service for the stocks and derivatives you want to trade. To use it, log into Client Portal> Help menu> Support Center> then Market Data Assistant.

IBKR does not offer option trading on spot metals. However, IBKR offers trading options on ETFs and futures whose value is related to metals.

      1. Log in to Client Portal
      2. Select the User menu (head and shoulders icon in the top right corner) followed by Settings
      3. Under Account Settings find the Trading section
      4. Click on Trading Permissions
      5. Locate Options section, select Add/Edit or Request under Options and check the box next to whichever trading permission or program you want to request and click on CONTINUE.
      6. Review and sign the disclosures and agreements.
      7. Click CONTINUE and follow the prompts on screen.
Please review this FAQ for more information: https://www.ibkr.com/faq?id=96858001

Hi, I have taken a look into the market data but was not sure which one is correct. What Market data subscription I need in order to trade NQ? Thank you

    • Interactive Brokers

Hello, thank you for reaching out. We have a market data assistant available to help you find data suited to your needs:
      https://ndcdyn.interactivebrokers.com/sso/Login?action=CS_MARKET_DATA_ASSISTANT

Furthermore, some exchanges allow delayed data to be displayed without any market data subscription, free of charge. Customers receive free delayed market data for contracts to which they do not currently hold market data subscriptions when made available by the exchanges.

Hi, I need support to solve a problem I am encountering in IB. I am trying to buy an ETF (IUSQISHARES MSCI ACWI), but once I try to buy it this message appears: “does not have permissions to trade this contract. You can request permissions in account settings.” I have trading permissions for equities (Italy, Central Europe and USA). Do I need to request anything else? Thank you for your help. Alessio

    • Interactive Brokers

Hello Alessio, thank you for commenting. In the trading permissions page in Client Portal, you will want to select Stocks permissions, which will include ETFs. Note that some ETFs may also require permissions for Complex or Leveraged Exchange Traded Products. Additionally, certain clients will need to be in compliance with current rules and regulations, such as the PRIIPs Regulation: ibkr.info/article/2993. We hope this information is useful!
