Different traders have various needs, and therefore Trader Workstation or TWS has been designed to allow for customizations. These customizations are managed via TWS Global Configuration. There are numerous settings to choose from ranging from general display and font to specific trading tools. In this course, we will go over how to access Global Configuration and how to make changes for various tools to best suit your needs.

The TWS Global Configuration can be accessed in both Mosaic and Classic TWS.

  • To access Global Configuration from any Mosaic layout, select File in the upper left corner of TWS and click Global Configuration in the drop down.
  • From Classic TWS, Global Configuration can be accessed by selecting Edit in the upper left corner then select Global Configuration.
  • It can also be accessed from any panel through the Configuration Gear in the upper right-hand corner of the panel and TWS Global Configuration will open directly to the available settings for that specific panel. We will now go into the Global Configuration area using Mosaic.

Once you click on Global Configuration there are two main sections.

  • The left pane is the main menu which will dictate the tool or area of TWS that is being configured.
  • Click on the plus sign to expand the high-level sections to view the sub-pages.
  • Once a page is selected on the left pane, the right pane will contain the available settings to configure. After all changes have been selected, click Apply and OK to activate the changes.

Keep in mind most changes are applied and effective immediately, but some require exiting and restarting TWS to become effective.

In the following lessons, we will dive deeper into some of the main Global Configurations available such as Display Settings, Order Presets and Hotkeys.

Hi, thank you for asking. To enable the Order Confirmation screen, go to Global Configuration (access via File menu in Mosaic or Edit menu in Classic TWS). Select the Messages section, check the box for “Confirm order submission” message, then click Apply and OK. Please reach back out with any additional questions. We hope this helps!

i need help trying to figure out a couple software issues. I left questions on your reddit page but go no replies . 1. the search filter has vanished from the global configuration page. I’ve tried everything to get it back including uninstalling, deleting all files and re installing. I am stuck not being able to search the global config now. 2. i am trying to upgrade to 1041 from 1037 and all of my favorites are missing. Even though ive exported the settings and re imported them . I tried saving a new favorite and it is trying to save it into my documents folder instead of the “charts” folder where all of my favorites are located. I cant find any place to set the default path to my favorites so they show up in TWS . Im stuck going back to 1037 for now .

Hello, thank you for reaching out. For your TWS software issues:

Issue 1: Missing Search Filter in Global Configuration

      To restore your TWS settings:

      Click File > Settings Recovery
Select a previous date from the list when the search filter was working
Click OK to apply the layout
If you have a saved layout file on your computer, you can click the Custom button to select that file instead.

This process typically resolves issues caused by corrupted settings. If the first date doesn’t work, try selecting a different date from the list.

Issue 2: Missing Favorites After Upgrading to Build 10.19

To transfer your settings between TWS versions:

In your current version (10.19), go to File > Layout Settings > Save Decrypted Settings As
Save the settings file to a location you can access
      Log back into TWS 10.19
Go to File > Settings Recovery
      Click the Custom button
Navigate to and select your saved settings file
      Click Open
Your favorites and other settings should now load in the new version.

Note: TWS Build 10.19 introduced a new Change Version feature on the File menu that allows you to switch between Stable, Latest, and Beta versions without logging out. You can use this to compare versions or revert if needed.

If these steps don’t resolve the issues, you can also try File > Layout Settings > Restore to Default Settings, which reverts TWS to its original layout while saving your current configuration for later restoration.
