The IBKR Mobile app allows investors to easily view and customize charts. Investors can view a thumbnail chart on an expanded quote line from the Watchlist, Portfolio or Scanner screens.
Viewing Charts
To use charts, from a Watchlist, Portfolio or Scanner page, tap a financial instrument to see a thumbnail chart as part of the expanded quote line. Tap again to enlarge the chart as part of the instrument details screen.
Within the chart, investors can adjust the time frame displayed by choosing from the menu along the bottom of the chart. To the far right of the time periods is a Configure gear icon. Tap the gear icon to access Chart Settings and adjust bar type, bar size, time period, Outside RTH trades, display Live Orders, Larger Charts, Volume Chart and Annotations. To add indicators the investor can use the toggle switch to enable. Once enabled, tap the Add Indicator button and select from the different groups, or select Sorted in the upper right corner to sort alphabetically. In this example the investor would like to add a Simple Moving Average so they select Moving Averages and locate Simple Moving Average from the list of studies. The checkbox next to the indicator will be checked off and now the indicator appears on the chart.
From the Chart Settings menu, the investor can tap on the indicator to adjust the Source, Input Price or Period, and use the Remove Indicator button to delete. To turn off a specific indicator without deleting it completely, uncheck the box. For definitions of the different indicators available, please see our user guide.
Tap on the chart to expand the chart window. The investor can swipe left and right on the chart to adjust the data time frame. Swipe from left to right to see more data going back in time and the values on the X and Y axis will adjust accordingly. Tap and hold on the chart to see a data point with crosshairs on the chart. The price and date will be highlighted in black on the corresponding axes. Tap the + icon next to the price to create an order to buy or sell the instrument at that price.
The top of the chart contains menu icons. The current time period will be displayed. Tap the time period to change and select from seconds, minutes, hours, or days. Once the investor changes the time period, all subsequent financial instruments will display this time period.
To change the bar type, select the bar icon and choose between bars, candles, hollow candles, columns, line, area, baseline, high-low and more.
To add studies to the chart, tap the Indicators icon. Investors can use the search bar to search for a specific indicator or browse from the list, and tap on the study to add. In this example, the investor would like to add a Moving Average onto the chart. From the menu, the investor taps Moving Average. The study is now displayed on the chart and, in the upper left corner of the chart, the investor will see the study’s name displayed. Tap on MA and select the Configure gear icon to edit the Inputs, Style, or Visibility of the selected study, and select Ok to save.
The square icon next to the Indicators icon allows investors to Save or Import Indicator Templates. To save an existing study, tap the icon, select Save Indicator template, enter a Template Name, and select Save. The Indicator Template has now been saved and can be imported to any future charts by tapping the icon and selecting from the list of “My Templates”.
Tap the Clock icon to enable Outside RTH.
Use the Save icon to Save a chart snapshot. Enter a name for the chart Snapshot and select the Save button. Use the File icon to load a previously saved chart snapshot. Enter a name in the search bar or browse through the list.
Tap the Configure gear icon to modify all chart settings. Tap the arrow in the top left and choose between Symbol, Status line, Scales, or Canvas. The investor taps the OK button once the settings have been adjusted to their liking.
The bottom left corner of the chart contains a blue arrow. The investor can tap the arrow to expand the menu to use the chart drawing tools to add trend lines, annotations, text and more.
