IBKR offers clients a way to trade cryptocurrencies alongside stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and funds. Cryptocurrency trade execution and custody are provided by Paxos Trust Company or Zero Hash LLC depending on your account type and country of legal residence. Cryptocurrency trading is also available through Interactive Brokers Hong Kong and is powered by OSL Digital Securities. Investors can request trading permissions for cryptocurrencies through the Interactive Brokers’ Client Portal.
There are two crypto trading permissions available: Crypto Basic and Crypto Plus. Investors who enable Crypto Plus trading permissions can use the Cryptocurrency Service Providers web app in addition to the IBKR trading platforms to trade cryptocurrencies. Crypto Plus trading permissions also provide the investor with 24/7 cryptocurrency trading access, allow you to transfer and hold USD in your Cryptocurrency Service Providers account, and support non-marketable buy limit orders.
To access the Settings page of Client Portal, select the Head & Shoulders icon in the upper right corner and then Settings. The Settings page is broken out by Account Settings on the left-hand side of the page and User Settings on the right-hand side.
Under Account Settings, select the Account Trading Permissions box, or locate the Trading section and select Trading Permissions. The Trading Permissions page will display currently configured permissions and allow the investor to request trading permissions for any additional products and markets they would like to trade. The investor will select the Add/Edit or Request button under Cryptocurrencies. On the following page, the investor can review the Crypto Provider’s Customer Agreement, sign their name, and select Continue. Review the requested changes and any disclosures, sign and select Continue to submit the request.
Please note that various criteria including financial information, investment experience and objectives are collected to create your Financial Profile, which in turn, is used when determining whether to approve accounts for trading permissions. IBKR does not disclose the eligibility requirements for any products. Investors can ensure their Financial Profile is up to date and accurate in the Account Settings.
