Nvidia’s results kicked off a rally in US equity futures, while job growth and oil prices both outpaced expectations.

What’s going on here?

Nvidia’s knockout earnings report supercharged US stock futures, while strong job and oil data gave markets an extra push.

What does this mean?

Wall Street woke up on the right side of the bed, with futures for the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq jumping 0.8%, 1.4%, and 1.9%. Nvidia set the tone with fiscal third-quarter results that smashed expectations, sending its shares up 5%. Meanwhile, the US economy added 119,000 jobs last month – more than twice forecasts – even as unemployment edged up to 4.4%. Energy markets rode the wave too, with Brent and WTI oil both up 1%, signaling solid global demand. The market mood wasn’t just an American affair: Japan’s Nikkei rallied 2.7%, Germany’s DAX gained 1.2%, and the UK’s FTSE 100 advanced 0.7%. Still, not everyone joined the party: Oddity Tech and PACS Group posted massive gains, but Bath & Body Works slumped 17% on weak quarterly results and a gloomy outlook.

Why should I care?

For markets: Tech earnings lead the charge.

Nvidia’s standout numbers underscore how dominant tech giants still power the market. Add in solid job growth and rising oil prices, and it’s clear that investor confidence in the US economy isn’t fading. The latest action points to renewed interest in both energy and growth stocks, while inflation and central bank policy stay firmly on investors’ radars.

The bigger picture: Signs of strength beyond borders.

Lively trading in Asia and Europe shows just how tightly global markets follow each other’s lead. Tech-driven rallies and better-than-expected economic data have helped ease some recession anxiety, but big swings at the company level – like Bath & Body Works’ tumble – are reminders that volatility isn’t going anywhere. As investors parse new data and earnings, the hope is that this positive momentum holds.
