Cardano is a research-driven blockchain designed for security and long-term scalability. ADA is issued through Proof-of-Stake and used for fees and staking. Users may earn staking rewards or interact with smart contracts. Cardano prioritizes formal verification and gradual development. Some investors are drawn to Cardano for its academic approach and focus on sustainability.

For example: Users stake ADA to participate in governance, or earn rewards, while running a decentralized voting app. Cardano uses Ouroboros Proof-of-Stake, so participants validate blocks according to stake, not mining. This provides a unique focus on energy-efficient staking and formal verification of smart contracts.

Transactions settle on the Cardano blockchain within a few minutes.
