IB Key
Protect Your Account with IB Key
Download the app today
IB Key gives you all the benefits of a physical security device and none of the inconveniences. Simply download IB Key to your Apple or Android mobile device, and you have your security device with you whenever you need it. There's no need to carry an extra device around with you all the time.

Accessing your account is fast and easy. You don't need to manipulate randomized strings when logging in.

The latest version of IB Key has the following advantages:
  • You can add IB Key to an account that is already protected by a security device of a different type.
  • If you have an iPhone 5s or higher, you can use Apple's Touch ID fingerprint feature to conveniently access your account through IB TWS for Mobile for the entire day.
Account security. Two-factor authentication. Phishing and Spyware. We understand that most people would rather not think about these things. Here at Interactive Brokers, we think about them all the time. In fact, protecting your account is our number one priority. The newly added flexibility to account security lets you choose a physical security device or IB Key to provide that important extra layer of security when accessing your IB account.

Split Spread
Split the Spread to Capture Better Prices
Orders that split the spread, or fill between the bid and ask prices, may yield significant price improvement and earn exchange rebates for adding liquidity. Our TWS Order Entry Panel makes it easy to submit orders within the bid/ask spread with tools, order types and algos. The panel's features include:
  • Enhanced Price Ladder with multiple modes that makes it easy to set an order price at the midpoint, or relative to the bid or ask price
  • Adaptive Algo button that provides a shortcut to this algo that automatically works the order within the bid/ask spread
  • Relative Price Wand combining all the features of the multi-mode Price Line to help you set the limit price to a percent of the bid/ask spread, or a tick off the bid or ask
See how easy it can be to submit potentially price-improving orders within the bid/ask spread.

Trader Workstation Key Enhancements
We remain dedicated to improving our clients' trading experience. With that in mind, here are some important recent enhancements to our TWS trading platform.
IB TWS for Mobile
Mobile Order Wheel - A Novel Way to Trade On-The-Go
The Mobile Order Wheel is setting new standards in speed and precision for placing split spread and limit orders from your mobile device. Interact quickly with prices and sizes with just a tap. The Order Wheel also offers relative price and monetary size values to accommodate all types of traders.

For example, in the Price Wheel, you could tap an absolute price of $75.46, for example, or use relative prices to have TWS calculate a price relative to the current bid or ask. For example, you might choose "Ask -2 ticks." In the Size Wheel, select an absolute size of 300, or let the system calculate the order quantity based on the monetary amount you want to spend or receive, for example $3,500.

Read more to see how the revolutionary Order Wheel can change the way you trade on the go.
Mobile users who enable fingerprint/Touch ID or passcode security can enjoy extended (30 hour) secure access to their trading account with just the TouchID.

We now highlight the midpoint of the bid/ask as MID in the mobile price wand, which you access by tapping the Price field when setting up an order.

Android: We now provide more key data for option chains that you can view by expanding the panel and then swiping. New data include: VWAP, option volume, IV Last, IV/Hist Vol, P/C Int, P/C Vlm, IV Cls, IV Change, Hist Vol, Hist Vol Cls, and Opt Vlm Chng.

New Interactive Brokers Asset Management Smart Beta Portfolio
The Tax Managed Large Cap (Tax.IB) Portfolio is the newest addition to the Smart Beta offering available through our investment advisory affiliate, Interactive Brokers Asset Management (IBAM).

Tax.IB is designed to systematically deliver return and risk characteristics of large-cap stocks within the US equity market, while potentially reducing the investor's overall tax liability. The portfolio is rebalanced quarterly to harvest potential unrealized investment losses, while trying to maintain the target capitalization weighting. Tax losses incurred in this portfolio could be potentially used by investors to offset other gains and income depending on their unique circumstances.

The lineup of IBAM's Smart Beta Portfolios may appeal to investors seeking:
  • Diversified exposure at lower costs
  • Automated investing based on active management stock selection
  • Automatic rebalancing
  • Market liquidity
See note 3 at the end of the communique for disclosures regarding this portfolio.

New Research Providers
Our comprehensive, multi-disciplinary slate of independent research continues to grow with the addition of these new providers:
  • Vermilion - Vermilion offers a range of research solutions aimed at maximizing outperformance by highlighting areas of absolute and relative strength, weakness, and momentum across the world's equity markets.
  • Bullseye Brief - Bullseye Brief looks for companies with a compelling fundamental story, data which supports the author's thesis, and a newsy hook.
  • Sentieo - Sentieo overlays search, collaboration and automation on key aspects of an analyst's workflow so that investors can spend less time searching and more time analyzing.
  • XTF - XTF provides comprehensive ETF ratings, research and investment decision support tools specifically built to empower investors with the ability to make informed decisions about exchange traded products.
Go to our Research Marketplace to learn more about these additions to our robust research library.

Hedge Fund Allocator Account
We launched Hedge Fund* Allocator, a non-trading account for fund of funds, endowments, pension funds, foundations, family offices, and advisors that allocate capital to hedge funds. Participating hedge fund allocators will have access to Hedge Fund Marketplace, our online capital introduction program that contains performance data and investment strategy information about constituent funds.

Go to Institutional Hedge Fund Investors on our website for more information about Interactive Brokers' hedge fund services.

Accelerated T+1 Stock Settlement
Effective September 5, 2017, the SEC and CCMA officially reduced the standard settlement period for securities traded on US and Canadian exchanges from three business days (T+3) to two (T+2).

In response to this change, on September 8th IB launched its "T+1" shortened settlement period. This feature is especially beneficial to our clients who write covered calls, as T+1 stock settlement allows you to purchase replacement shares to use against an assignment, and potentially preclude capital gains and a higher tax liability.

To use early settlement, you must first enable the trading permission "United States (T+1 Settlement Program)" in Account Management. Once enabled, you will be able to select "TPLUS1" as your stock order destination in TWS. NOTE: Accounts enabled for T+2 trading permissions will automatically be assigned T+1 permissions.

New Methodology for Calculating
Benchmark Interest Rates
We completed an update to our methodology for calculating benchmark interest rates.

Currently, benchmark, or effective rates are determined by using a market implied rate that is capped above/below a traditional benchmark. This new approach incorporates FXSwap prices derived from various banks and/or money market rates to calculate the implied rate.

These derived rates should more closely track the actual cost of financing compared with the static benchmarks that we previously used.
