The energy sector is the heartbeat of the global economy. From powering homes and vehicles to fueling industries and innovation, energy is everywhere. This market sector in our economy includes everything from traditional oil and gas to cutting-edge renewables like solar and wind. It represents over 6% of the total market, with a staggering $3.7 trillion in market capitalization.

This sector is broadly divided into two major categories:

The energy sector is the foundation of modern civilization. It encompasses the exploration, extraction, production, refining, transportation, and distribution of energy resources that power everything from homes and vehicles to factories and data centers.

Traditional energy: This includes fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal. These resources have powered industrial growth for over a century and remain critical for global energy supply, especially in transportation, manufacturing, and heating.

Renewable Energy: This category includes solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and bioenergy. These sources are increasingly favored for their sustainability, lower carbon footprint, and long-term cost efficiency. Renewables are central to the global transition toward cleaner energy systems.

The energy sector is not just about fuel it’s about infrastructure. It supports transportation networks, industrial production, agriculture, and even digital infrastructure, like powering data centers and cloud computing.
