This morning 1,000 Gen Digital Inc. (Symbol: GEN) January 16 ’26 31 calls traded for $0.85.  The investor sold the calls with the price of the underlying trading at $25.39. The calls are a 25 delta, so the trade was the equivalent of 25,000 shares of stock.

The investor may be selling covered calls against a long stock position to take in extra income speculating that GEN will trade below 31 in January.

GEN is currently trading at $25.67. GEN has a 52-week high of $31.72 and a 52-week low of $19.38.

    Why not doing a spread buying the $19.38. put as insurance? Safer?

    Buying puts doesn’t hedge against selling calls. It compounds risk in the same direction. If the stock price is above the call strike price at expiration, you would lose money on both trades.
