This morning 3,000 June 20th  2025 20 calls traded in Par Pacific Holdings, Inc. (Symbol: PARR) for $1.15 with the investor paying the ask on an opening trade. The calls are at-the-money (ATM), PARR was trading for $19.67 at the time of the trade. The 20 calls are a 50 delta, so the trade is the equivalent of 150,000 shares of stock.

There are several reasons why an investor might purchase at the money call options: they may be speculating that stock will rise and want to use less capital for the investment than buying the shares outright, it limits the risk to just the premium paid for the options and enables speculation with a controlled downside. ATM options are typically the most liquid series as well.

PARR is currently trading at $20.11. PARR has a 52-week high of $27.97 and a 52-week low of $11.86.

I originally interpreted your article as meaning that someone bought 3000 calls, but that would appear as an increase in the Open Interest, which is only updated by IBKR overnight. So you couldn’t have seen it at 11AM. But then you never really said they opened 3000 calls at once, implying they could have opened and closed a much smaller amount many times.
