This morning 1,500 Designer Brands Inc. (Symbol: DBI) June 21 ’24 11 calls traded for $0.45. This was an opening trade since the open interest this morning in the DBI calls was 170 contracts. The calls are a 31 delta, so the trade is the equivalent of 46,500 shares of stock.

Earnings are expected to be released the week of June 3rd so this may be an earnings play. In the past eight earnings cycle DBI has had mixed results compared to estimates.

DBI is currently trading at $9.57. DBI has a 52-week high of $13.09 and a 52-week low of $6.09.

    I’m sorry but some of this information is incorrect. First, the high of the day for these calls was only 45c so I think 1.45 may have been a typo. Secondly, according to Earnings Whispers the next earnings release date is June 20th before the opening. Seems like a waste to buy calls in mid May for an event scheduled five weeks in the future. If they have inside information maybe the buyer thinks there will be less scrutiny this way.

    i think, this long call is good timing. Usually IV begins to jump higher two or three even more weeks before earnings date. So five weeks to the ED gives opportunity to buy still cheep OTM calls. With last R in the range of 11-11.50, seven weeks ago and uptrend for the last four weeks from the S range 8-8.5, I would say from my perspective at this price now around 9.57 , this is very logical trade.
