MSCI World index

Trading Term

The MSCI World Index is a global equity index that represents the performance of large- and mid-cap stocks across 23 developed market countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany, the UK, and Canada. It is widely used as a benchmark for global equity performance and provides a comprehensive overview of the world’s developed economies. The index covers a wide range of industries, such as technology, healthcare, finance, and consumer goods, and is market-capitalization weighted, meaning companies with larger market values have a bigger influence on the index’s movements.

The MSCI World Index is often used by institutional investors and fund managers to gauge global stock market trends and diversify portfolios. It includes over 1,600 companies and serves as a proxy for the overall performance of developed market equities. Investors can gain exposure to the index through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) or mutual funds designed to track its performance. While it provides a broad snapshot of developed markets, it excludes emerging market countries, which are covered by other indices, such as the MSCI Emerging Markets Index.
