Atomic Settlement

Trading Term

Atomic settlement refers to a transaction structure in which two or more legs either settle simultaneously or not at all. There is no partial execution risk. In traditional finance, this resembles delivery-versus-payment but enforced programmatically through smart contracts. The key benefit is elimination of settlement and counterparty risk between transacting parties, as finality is conditional on all predefined conditions being met within the same transaction.
