Asset Turnover Ratio

Trading Term

The asset turnover ratio measures the revenue generated for each dollar of assets. It is generally calculated by dividing net sales by average total assets for the reporting period.

A higher ratio may indicate efficient asset utilization, but appropriate levels differ by industry. Retailers often have higher asset turnover than utilities, manufacturers, or other asset-intensive businesses.
