Normalized Earnings

Trading Term

Normalized earnings adjust reported results to reflect ordinary business conditions. Analysts may remove one-time gains, exceptional expenses, temporary disruptions, and unusually strong or weak cyclical performance.

The process requires judgment and may produce different estimates depending on the assumptions used. Investors should be cautious when companies repeatedly exclude costs that appear to be part of normal operations.
