Market Scanners Quickstart Guide

The TWS Market Scanners provide a quick scan of relevant markets and return the top contracts
based on the instrument, parameter and filtering criteria you define. You can run scanners after-hours
to see a snapshot of the last available data.

Open a Market Scanner

From the TWS Analytics menu, select Market Scanner.

The scanner page opens with parameters displayed. All scanner pages are auto-labeled using the format Instrument Scanner: Scan Name.

Choose an Instrument Type

From the parameters panel, select the Instrument type. The subsequent panels are context-sensitive, and show available variables based on your Instrument type selection. Note how the display changes for US Stocks (above) and US Corporate Bonds (below).

Define Location, Filters and Parameters

Move through the available panels to define criteria for the scanner. Many instruments include the Locations panel, where you can include and exclude specific destinations. Use the Filters to specify ranges that must be considered, for example Moody Ratings for Corporate Bonds, or Prices greater than/less than for US Stocks, and variables such as a symbol or industry, that can be excluded from the scan or set as an "only" requirement. The Parameter panel, which you can see in the image below, lists all available scanners based on the Instrument type.

Scan the Markets

Click the Search button (1) to run the market scanner based on the criteria you defined. You can review the scan parameters in the dynamic scanner title (2) which changes as you define the scan. The scan shown below scanned for the Top % Gainers in US Stocks on NYSE, AMEX, ARCA and NASDAQ NMS, at any price/volume. Scan results (3) display in the bottom section of the window.

If you have Auto Refresh checked, the scanner will run periodically and the results will be continuously updated. You can see how long a ticker has qualified for the scan in the Time in Scan field. If Auto Refresh is unchecked, the scan runs only once and displays a snapshot of the top returns. Click Search again to update the scan at any time.

Run After-Hours Snapshot Scans

You can use Market Scanners even when the markets are closed. After-hours returns are a snapshot of data based on the closing price, and are identified as such by their gray background.
