Overview – mobileTWS for iPhone®

Overview

IB's mobileTWS® for iPhone® provides electronic access to your IB account wherever you go, directly from your iPhone. Trade stocks, options, futures and forex, view real-time charts and market data, monitor your trades, account balance and more, all on-the-go from the convenience of your iPhone®.


Login

After the mobileTWS® application opens, you will see the Login page.

Once you have logged in, if you leave the mobileTWS® application without logging out, by default you have a 20 minute grace period to reconnect without entering your username, password and secure token. You can adjust the auto-reconnect time by accessing Configuration from the main menu.

Select Use SSL to add SSL encryption which adds an extra layer of security for your trading information that moves over the internet. Note that enabling this functionality may slightly impact performance depending on the capabilities of your mobile device.

Not a client yet? You can still access delayed market data for products around the world and try out powerful tools like market scanners and alerts.

Once you're logged in, you will see the Configuration page displaying the version and configuration settings. Touch the horizontal bars on the top left to access the main menu.


Watchlists

From the Main Menu, touch Watchlists to view a page of quotes. Just like TWS, you can define a custom title for each page and add, modify or delete existing pages. You can create up to 12 watchlists and each watchlist may contain up to 50 symbols.

If you enter a ticker on an exchange to which you have not subscribed, mobileTWS will ask if you would like to see delayed market data for the ticker. The delayed quotes are displayed in yellow. Note delayed quotes are determined by each exchange.

Touch the three vertical bars on the column header to add or remove columns. Turn on the ability to sync columns in all your watchlist by accessing the configuration page.


View Mini-Chart on Watchlist and the Quote Detail Page

  • Touch a contract on the watchlist to display a mini-chart, Position, P&L, Bid/Ask and High/Low price details. Touch the vertical bars in the column header to add more columns, such as Open, Close, High, Low, Average Daily Volume, etc.
  • Touch More on the side of the Watchlist screen to view the Quote Detail Page.

Add a Quote to a Watchlist

  • Touch the '+' Add Contract at the bottom of the quote watchlist.
  • Enter the underlying symbol in the entry field, and touch the blue Search button.
  • Select the exchange/routing destination and instrument type.
  • To add a new watchlist, just swipe to a blank watchlist and enter a title.

Modify Watchlist

  • Touch the Edit button at the top of the watchlist.
  • To delete a ticker symbol, touch the red circle icon, followed by the Delete button.
  • Drag the three horizontal bars up or down to adjust the order of the watchlist.
  • To edit the Page Title – just edit the text at the top of the watchlist.

Charts

Touch the wrench icon to modify the chart type, select a different bar size or time period. Include data from outside the regular trading hours by enabling Outside RTH. Use the sliders to enable volume and annotations.

You can add Studies such as Bollinger Bands and Moving Averages. For Moving Averages, set source criteria, such as Trades or Midpoint, input price and time period. For Bollinger Bands, you can define source, base average, period and standard deviation. Once the study is defined, you can turn it on to display in the chart on the Quote Details page.

Create an Order

  • Touch Order Ticket from the Main Menu or the Buy and Sell buttons on Quote Detail page. Enter the order details and use the arrowheads to choose from a list of available values. Enable Outside RTH to allow orders to fill or trigger outside the regular trading hours.
  • For a limit order, you can attach a Profit Taker, Stop Loss or Bracket order.
  • After all the order details are entered, touch the Submit button to send the order.

After your order is transmitted, you will see the live order information appear at the bottom of the Quote Detail page.

mobileTWS for Smartphones

Live Orders

From the main menu select Orders. All open orders will display along with their associated color status. You can toggle between Live (pending orders) and All (filled and cancelled orders) by touching the top right All button.

Touch the order row to modify the order details or send a cancellation request.


Trades

Touch Trades to view your executions. By touching the arrow button, you can view the trade details. Use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to sort by Time, Action (bought and sold), or Symbol. Choose to have your phone beep by turning on 'Beep for trade' on the configuration page.


Portfolio

From the main menu touch Portfolio to display your current positions. An account summary at the top of the page displays Net Liquidity, Excess Liquidity, Unrealized and Realized P&L. Rotate your phone to view in landscape mode, touch the three vertical bars in the column header to add or remove columns. Just like the watchlist, touch a row to view the quote detail screen.

Option Chain & Strategy Builder

A combo or spread order is a combination of individual orders (legs) that work together to create a single trading strategy.

  • Enter an underlying ticker symbol on a Watchlist and select Option Chain & Strategy Builder.
  • On the top of the option chain, choose an expiry.

  • Tap on the Call or Put section of each row and select either View Quote Details or Add to Watchlist.
  • Tap on the Strategy Builder button on the top right to create option spreads. Tap on the Call or Put section of each row to create a spread.
mobileTWS for Smarphones
  • Touch the arrow to choose Buy or Sell and touch the quantity arrow to adjust the quantity. The implied price is calculated based on the underlying price of each leg, and changes with variations in the price of each underlying. Based on the implied price, SmartRouting will route each leg of the order separately to get the best price.
  • Click the Done button to view the option combo on the watchlist.
  • Touch the option combo on the Watchlist to initiate an order.

Miscellaneous Features

BookTrader

To submit complex orders quickly, open the BookTrader tool from the Quote Details window.

The BookTrader price ladder shows the bid/ask volume at available price points.

  • Click at a price level in the yellow bid side to create a BUY order at that price.
  • Click in the green ask side for a SELL order.

Toggle between complex and simple order types by touching either the Simple Order or Complex Order buttons. Choose Complex Order to attach a Stop, Target limit or Bracket Order.

  • Touch an order type to transmit. If Confirm is ON you will need to confirm the order before it is sent. If Confirm is set to OFF, the order will transmit instantaneously when you touch the order type.
  • Modify the price of a working order by tapping another price level in the ladder and selecting Modify Order.
  • Send a cancellation request by tapping on the working order in the ladder and selecting Cancel Order.

The BookTrader feature is also available with delayed data in the demo system.

View Accounts

In order to look-up your account information; touch Account on the main menu. If you have more than one account, simply touch the account name at the top of the screen and make your account selection. Select All in the account name field to access a consolidated view across all accounts. Select Manage on the top right of the page to access Account Management.

Touch the buttons at the bottom of the page to view your Balances, Margin, Funds and Market Value account information. Swipe the screen with your finger to scroll through the account information.

Portfolio News

Touch Portfolio News from the main menu to view the news headlines for contracts in your portfolio. Touch the headline to view the story. To get the next available headlines, pull down to refresh/reload.

Trading Assistant

The Mobile Trading Assistant provides a group of notifications to notify you when user-specified market, account, positions and order execution thresholds are crossed. Notifications occur in real time, and can be sent via email or text.

Scanners

To view the available scanners, return to the main menu and touch Scanners. Touch a pre-defined scanner to view the top 16 contracts that meet the scan criteria. From the Scanner list, touch the "+" sign to create your own market scanner.

Create a new scanner by picking a region and instrument type (i.e. US Stocks, Europe Futures, and Asia Indexes), choosing a scan type (availability based on instrument selection) and adding filter criteria if desired. Touch Create Scanner and the scanner will now appear in your scanner list.

Alerts

From the Main Menu touch Alerts. Touch either the "Create custom alert" or the "+" sign to create an alert. These alerts will also show up in your TWS application. Enter a descriptive name and then touch the green circle to define alert conditions. You can create three different types of alerts – price, trade execution and margin cushion.

Configuration

From the main menu, touch Configuration to review or modify your mobileTWS® configuration options.

  • Account Management – Launch the account management application.
  • E-mail – Enter the email address that will be used for alert text messages.
  • Enable FX portfolio – Set to 'ON' to show your virtual FX Positions in a contract style view on the Account screens.
  • Sync columns on all watchlists – If enabled, all watchlist will use the same column layout.
  • Beep for trade – Set to 'ON' to hear a beep when an order is filled.
  • Allow reconnect – Set to 'ON' to allow a grace period to reconnect without entering username/password/secure token.
  • Auto-reconnect time – Touch to set the auto-reconnect time period.
  • Auto-roll futures – Turn on to have expiring futures contract data updated to reflect the next lead month future. Note that this is for data only, not for orders.
  • Read-Only Access – First - enable or disable this feature within Account Management – Manage Account | Settings | Mobile. Turn on to allow non-trading access to mobileTWS without logging in.
  • Save Cloud watchlist – Turn on to save updated and new watchlists to the cloud for import on another mobile device or tablet.
  • Show last known quote – If turned on, when markets are closed all tickers that have a market data subscription will display a static snapshot of bid and ask values and sizes. Static data will use gray text and last price will have a diamond symbol next to it.
  • High precision Forex quotes – When enabled, the precision for Forex quotes will be increased to 1/10 of a pip.
  • Suppressed msgs – Select to turn on all messages that you may have chosen to hide.
  • Watchlist import – Select to import Watchlist from the desktop TWS and other devices. Select one or multiple Watchlists to import. To import changes to an existing Watchlist, elect to overwrite the full page, or just append new tickers to the existing Watchlist.
  • SSL – Turn on SSL encryption which adds an extra layer of security for your trading information that moves over the internet.

Overview – mobileTWS® for Android®

Login

After the mobileTWS for Android® application opens up, you will see the Login page. Non-clients have access to delayed quotes and charts (delay times are determined by the individual exchanges). Additionally, non-clients can log into the mobileTWS for Android® demo system to get a feel for mobileTWS for Android.

If you have a Paper Trading Account, you can log into that account using your Paper Trading Account username and password.

Once you have logged in, if you leave the mobileTWS® application without logging out, by default you have a 20 minute grace period to reconnect without entering your username, password and secure token. You can adjust the auto-reconnect time by accessing Configuration from the main menu.

You can also have mobileTWS for Android® remember your username by setting Save username. For easier access, you can also move the Login field to the top of the Android® screen simply by changing the setting Login on top. These setting adjustments are covered in Configuration. Once you're logged in, you will see the Watchlist page display. Touch the three horizontal bars on the top left to access the main menu.

Modify Watchlist – Touch Smartphone Menu button to view Page Configuration menu

  • To delete a ticker symbol, touch the trash can icon, followed by the red X button.
  • Drag the double green arrows to adjust the order of the watchlist.
  • Touch Page Name to change the title of the watchlist.
  • Touch Search for Symbol to filter list of tickers, or just touch the arrowhead on the right of the watchlist title.

Charts

MobileTWS for Android now supports real-time chart updates. Touch the wrench icon to modify the chart type, select a different bar size or time period. Include data from outside the regular trading hours by checking Outside RTH. Touch the checkboxes to view volume and annotations.

You can add studies such as Bollinger Bands and Moving Averages. For Moving Averages, set source criteria, such as Trades or Midpoint, input price and time period.   • After your order is transmitted, you will also see the live order information appear at the bottom of the Quote Detail page.
  • The status colors give you information at-a-glance and are the same as in TWS. Please see order status colors in the User Guide.

Close a position from the Quote Details page by selecting the Close button. A new order will be created. At this point, you can review and modify the order details. Select Submit to transmit the order.


Live Orders

From the main menu select Orders to view open orders. All open orders will display along with their associated color status. Click on the Live button at the top of the page to view All Orders.

Touch the open order row followed, make the modification and then touch the Transmit Modify button.

To send a cancellation request for an open order, simply touch the order from the Orders page and touch Cancel Order. When the order status color changes to red, the balance of your order has been confirmed canceled.


Trades

Choose Trades from the main menu to view executions. By selecting the ticker symbol, you can view the trade details. Use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to sort by Time, Action (bought and sold), or Symbol.

Portfolio

From the main menu touch Portfolio to display your current positions. An account summary at the top of the page displays Net Liquidity, Excess Liquidity, Unrealized and Realized P&L. Click the symbol to view a thumbnail chart, and click More to view the Quote Details page.

Option Chain & Combo Builder

A combo or spread order is a combination of individual orders (legs) that work together to create a single trading strategy.

  • Enter an underlying ticker symbol on a Watchlist and select Option Chain & Strategy Builder..
  • On the top of the option chain, choose an expiry.
  • Tap on the Call or Put section of each row and select either View Quote Details or Add to Watchlist.
  • Tap on the Combo Builder button on the top right to create option spreads.

  • Tap on the Call or Put section of each row to define each leg of the combo.
  • Touch the arrow to choose Buy or Sell and touch the quantity arrow to adjust the quantity. The implied price is calculated based on the underlying price of each leg, and changes with variations in the price of each underlying. Based on the implied price, IB's SmartRouting will route each leg of the order separately to get the best price.
  • Touch the Done button to view the option combo on the watchlist.
  • Touch on the Option Combo on the watchlist to view the spread and create an order.

Miscellaneous Features

BookTrader

The BookTrader price ladder shows the bid/ask volume at available price points.

  • Click at a price level in the yellow bid side to create a BUY order at that price.
  • Click in the green ask side for a SELL order.
  • At the top of the window there is a green Confirm check mark which is on by default. With the Confirm feature on, tapping an order type will prompt you to confirm before transmitting. If you turn the Confirm feature off, tapping an order type will transmit the order immediately.

Toggle between complex and simple order types by touching either the Simple Order or Complex Order buttons. Choose Complex Order to attach a Stop, Target limit or Bracket Order.

Modify the price of a working order by tapping another price level in the ladder. The BookTrader feature is also available with delayed data in the demo system.


View Accounts

In order to look-up your account activity, select Account on the main menu. You can monitor your account balances, margin requirements, available funds and market value details. Select the buttons at the bottom of the page to view your Margin, Funds and Market Value account information.

Market Scanners

To view market scanners, from the main menu select Scanners. Touch a pre-defined scanner to view the top contracts that meet the scan criteria. Touch the very last item in the Scanners list to create a new Scanner and set its parameters.

Create a new scanner by picking a region and instrument type (i.e. US Stocks, Europe Futures, and Asia Indexes), choosing a scan type (availability based on instrument selection) and adding filter criteria if desired. Click the Android® MENU button and click Save and Exit to save the scanner.


Alerts

From the Main Menu touch Alerts. Touch "Click to create an Alert". These alerts will also show up in your TWS application. Enter a descriptive name and then touch "Click to set a Condition". Multiple conditions may be created for a single alert.

  • Price Condition - Enter the symbol and set the price alert criteria. Confirm or modify the alert settings.
  • Trade Condition - Limit the alert criteria by entering a value in one or more of condition fields; Underlying, Exchange and/or Type. To be alerted on the next filled order regardless of underlying, exchange or product type, leave all condition fields with the default value.
  • Margin Condition - Touch Percent to define the margin cushion percentage.

In the Settings area, touch "Click to edit Text Message" to enter an alert message and specify the email address. Specify whether you want the alert to trigger outside the regular trading hours (RTH). Also, specify if the alert has an expiration date. Touch the Back button to save the alert and view it on your Alerts list.


Configuration

From the main menu, select Configuration to review or modify your mobileTWS for Android® configuration options.

  • Account Management – Launch the account management application.
  • Send to E-mail – Enter the email address that will be used for alert text messages.
  • Beep for trade – Set to 'ON' to hear a beep when an order is filled.
  • Enable FX portfolio – Set to 'ON' to show your virtual FX Positions in a contract style view on the Account screens.
  • Portfolio Account Data – Set to 'ON' to view account data on portfolio page.
  • Auto logout – Set a 1 minute to 12 hour grace period to reconnect without entering username/password/secure token.
  • Login on Top – Set to 'ON' to have the Customer Login display at the top of the screen.
  • Read-Only Access – First - enable or disable this feature within Account Management – Manage Account | Settings | Mobile. Turn on to allow non-trading access to mobileTWS without logging in. Along with Read-Only Access, you have the ability to pass off the login authentication from your desktop TWS session to mobileTWS.
  • Save Watchlist to Cloud – Turn on to save updated and new watchlists to the cloud for import on another mobile device or tablet.
  • Show last known quote – If turned on, when markets are closed all tickers that have a market data subscription will display a static snapshot of bid and ask values and sizes. Static data will use gray text and last price will have a diamond symbol next to it.
