Vienna Stock Exchange

Weiner Börse AG, the company that operates the Vienna Stock Exchange, is one of the world's oldest stock exchanges. Founded in 1771, the company today operates the only securities exchange in Austria as well as the Energy Exchange of Austria (EXAA), and the CEGH Gas Exchange of the Vienna Stock Exchange.

In its early years, the Vienna Stock Exchange served mainly as a marketplace for trading bonds, bills of exchange and foreign currencies. It wasn't until 1818 that stocks began trading on the exchange for the first time.

The Vienna Stock Exchange operates a multi-asset class electronic platform combining Austria's cash market and derivatives exchange to offer trading, clearing and settlement of equities, bonds, futures and options.

Two platforms power trading on Weiner Börse; cash market securities trade through Deutsche Borse's Xetra trading system, while derivatives trade through the Eurex trading system. Both systems execute trades using price-time priority. Clearing and settlement of all cash market and derivatives trades is provided by Central Counterparty Austria GmbH (CCP.A).

Weiner Börse is a subsidiary of CEESEG AG. CEESEG is the holding company for the four stock exchanges of Budapest, Ljubljana, Prague and Vienna. Business operations are carried out by the four member exchanges, while CEESEG is responsible for strategic and financial management as well as the administration of the subsidiaries.
