GREENWICH, CT, June 10, 2010 — Interactive Brokers (IB) is pleased to announce that we will offer our IB Student Trading Lab to colleges and universities for the 2010 – 2011 academic year. The IB Student Trading Lab delivers the power of the IB Trader Workstation (TWS) to users and provides a working partnership between Interactive Brokers and high school and college educators. This partnership will enable educators to use IB’s PaperTrader account for free in their financial, computer science, business and other applicable classes. Students using the IB PaperTrader during the course of the academic year can work on financial technology or investment strategies assignments and projects, and will gain an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the U.S. financial markets as well as forex trading. Our Trader Workstation provides students with the ability to trade US stocks, options, futures, futures options, bonds and forex in a simulated account using real time-market data and offers a safe environment to apply trading strategies while learning how to improve risk-management skills.

Some sample exercises might include encouraging students to place a number of trades per week, use certain order types (i.e. Limit or Market orders), or analyze top options gainers. While working within the test environment, students can:

  • Use powerful TWS features such as advanced order types and algos - without risk.
  • Learn market dynamics covering exchanges and new products. Simulate and test their own trading strategies with a variety of trading and analytical tools.
  • Access their PaperTrader account from an iPhoneTM or BlackBerry®.
  • Test applications through the TWS Application Program Interface (API).
  • Utilize various statements and reports to monitor and evaluate their account and the performance of their portfolio.

Students’ account equity will reflect their trading activity as if the trades had executed in the real market, and they can reset this equity at any time within the Account Management facility.

We invite educators to explore the simulated trading program over the summer to decide whether they would like to include The Student Trading Lab in their class curriculum. Registration for the program is fast and easy: just visit our website at
http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/education/IBStudentTradingLabRegistration.php. Simulated trading accounts are available for 1 or 2 semesters.

IB also encourages educators to send their students’ resumes to ibstudenttradinglab@interactivebrokers.com for full-time employment consideration.
