Most people go with Individual and that\u2019s what we\u2019ll be covering today. Select your state, tap&nbsp;<em>Start Application<\/em>, and you&#8217;re in. We may ask for additional information or identification depending on your responses or location. As a licensed brokerage this is a regulatory requirement, and we work to make that process as easy as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>These first screens are the basics \u2014 name, email, phone number. You&#8217;ll get a quick text code to verify. Nothing surprising here, so let&#8217;s skip ahead to where people usually have questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Okay \u2014&nbsp;<em>&#8216;Why do you need my employer? Why are you asking about my income source?&#8217;<\/em>&nbsp;Totally fair questions. Here&#8217;s the short answer: as a U.S.-regulated brokerage, we&#8217;re&nbsp;<em>legally required<\/em>&nbsp;to collect this under anti-money laundering and financial protection laws. Every legitimate broker has to do this. We&#8217;re not judging your paycheck \u2014 we&#8217;re checking compliance boxes so regulators stay happy and your money stays protected. Fill these in, and let&#8217;s keep moving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Next, you&#8217;ll pick between a Cash or Margin account. Margin lets you borrow against your portfolio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trading on margin is only for experienced investors with high risk tolerance. You may lose more than your initial investment. For additional information regarding margin loan rates, see ibkr.com\/interest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Now you&#8217;ll set your investment objectives and choose your trading permissions \u2014 stocks, options, crypto, futures, even prediction markets \u2014 across a hundred and seventy-plus global markets. And don&#8217;t stress \u2014 you can always update these later.&#8221; Please note that various criteria including financial information, investment experience and objectives are collected to create your Financial Profile, which in turn, is used when determining whether to approve accounts for trading permissions. IBKR does not disclose the eligibility requirements for any products. Investors can ensure their Financial Profile is up to date and accurate in the Account Settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Last the info screen \u2014 your Social Security Number. Every U.S. brokerage requires this to verify your identity. It&#8217;s standard, secure, and It\u2019s the last piece of information needed to create an account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Finally, you&#8217;ll review and sign a few disclosure documents. I know \u2014 nobody&#8217;s favorite part. But these actually matter: they spell out your rights, how your account is protected, and how everything works between you and Interactive Brokers. It&#8217;s transparency baked into the process, and it&#8217;s there for&nbsp;<em>your<\/em>&nbsp;benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that&#8217;s it. Once you&#8217;re approved, you\u2019ll fund your account and before you know it you&#8217;re trading a hundred and seventy-plus global markets, with the opportunity to earn interest on your settled cash and paying some of the lowest costs in the industry.
