{"id":185091,"date":"2023-02-15T14:16:59","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T19:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/?post_type=trading-lessons&#038;p=185091"},"modified":"2023-04-25T20:55:30","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T00:55:30","slug":"ibusopt-pegged-to-midpoint-order-type","status":"publish","type":"trading-lessons","link":"https:\/\/www.interactivebrokers.com\/campus\/trading-lessons\/ibusopt-pegged-to-midpoint-order-type\/","title":{"rendered":"IBUSOPT Pegged-to-Midpoint Order Type"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>What is the IBUSOPT Pegged-to-Midpoint order type?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interactivebrokers.com\/en\/trading\/orders\/ibusopt-pegmid.php\">Interactive Brokers (IBKR) IBUSOPT Pegged-to-Midpoint<\/a> order type is useful if the investor wishes to rest a nonmarketable order at the midpoint of the <a href=\"https:\/\/tradersacademy.online\/glossary-terms\/nbbo\">National Best Bid and Offer<\/a>, more commonly known as the NBBO. The IBUSOPT Pegged-to-Midpoint order type also allows the investor to compete for liquidity by adding optional offsets to the mid-price.&nbsp; If the investor chooses to use an offset to comply with the minimum tick rule, IBKR requires two offset values: a primary and secondary offset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to access the IBUSOPT order destination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To access the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interactivebrokers.com\/en\/trading\/orders\/ibusopt-destination.php\">Interactive Brokers IBUSOPT order destination<\/a> from Mosaic, the investor should enter the option in the Order Entry panel, select buy or sell, the quantity they want to trade, and the limit price. Next, the investor should bring up the <em>Advanced Panel<\/em> \u2013 click on the plus sign next to <em>Advanced<\/em>. In the top left-hand corner of the panel, click on the arrow next to the <em>Destination<\/em> drop-down box, scroll down and choose <em>IBUSOPT<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to set up an IBUSOPT Pegged-to-Midpoint order?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the order type drop down box directly above in the Order Entry panel and select <em>Pegged to Mid<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"468\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/IBKRUSOPT-Peg-Mid-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-188602 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/IBKRUSOPT-Peg-Mid-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/IBKRUSOPT-Peg-Mid-1-700x328.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/IBKRUSOPT-Peg-Mid-1-300x140.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/IBKRUSOPT-Peg-Mid-1-768x359.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; aspect-ratio: 1000\/468;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Advanced panel two boxes appear below the Destination:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mid Offset at Whole or a Primary offset<\/strong> \u2013 which must be in whole cent increments, that is applied to the spread when it is an even number of cents wide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mid Offset at Half or a Secondary offset<\/strong> \u2013 which must be in half-penny increments, that is automatically applied when the spread is an odd number of cents wide resulting in a whole penny price after it is added or subtracted from the midpoint price. In cases where the midpoint falls on a half-cent, this offset is automatically used. In other words, positive offsets make the order less aggressive and negative orders make it more aggressive. This is shown as a reversal of signs in the <em>Advanced Window<\/em> and the <em>Order Confirmation<\/em> once entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the midpoint falls on the half-cent, the <em>Secondary<\/em> or <em>Mid Offset at Half<\/em> is automatically applied using the same logic as above where a positive offset makes the order less aggressive, and a negative offset makes the order more aggressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this example, the investor is going to add a 0.04 whole or primary offset and the half or secondary offset will automatically calculate to 0.035. Notice that the positive offset the investor entered in the drop-down box is being shown as a negative value from the midpoint since this is a buy order and the offset will be subtracted from the midpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When ready, exit out of the Advanced panel, click <em>Submit<\/em>, and the order confirmation window will appear showing the Mid Offset and Whole and Mid Offset at Half amounts in the same negative signage as the Advanced Window since they were entered as a positive value for a buy order.
