Certainly, you may decide not to invest in the company at all \u2013 purely on principle \u2013 but if you choose to investigate further, you may ask, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Does the company produce toxins that are deemed by a regulator, for example the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to be harmful \u2013 for instance, is it involved in any way with PCBs, asbestos, or lead-based paint?<\/li><li>Is it responsible for creating pollutants such as greenhouse gases? Is it a chemical manufacturer, for example, that uses CFCs, or an agricultural company that produces methane, or an energy company that produces carbon dioxide?<\/li><li>Is it a food manufacturer or a cosmetic or a pharmaceutical company that experiments on, or otherwise mistreats, animals?<\/li><li>Is it a company that cuts down trees to manufacture wood-based products or supply timber?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the answer to any of these examples is \u2018yes\u2019, you may then want to examine whether any of these risks could hamper that company\u2019s future financial performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Could it face regulatory fines for not complying with federal or local laws?<\/li><li>Could it face litigation?<\/li><li>Could its practices damage its reputation, spurring distrust in its management?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-debates\"><strong>Debates<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When conducting your fundamental analysis, you may also want to consider different views concerning environmental issues, such as scientific findings that drive those government and corporate policies that are aligned with, for example, climate change or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8MKl-VZ9BDQ&amp;t=46s\">forest management<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, while many&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/climate.nasa.gov\/evidence\/\">federal agencies<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.climate.gov\/news-features\/climate-qa\/isnt-there-lot-disagreement-among-climate-scientists-about-global-warming\">scientists may agree<\/a>&nbsp;on the causes of global warming,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraserinstitute.org\/article\/putting-the-con-in-consensus-not-only-is-there-no-97-per-cent-consensus-among-climate-scientists-many-misunderstand-core-issues\">others may argue<\/a>&nbsp;about the lack of a single model that reveals repeatable and reliable evidence for their claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, while initiatives to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.priceless.com\/charity\/927\/priceless-planet-coalition\">protect the world\u2019s forests<\/a>&nbsp;seem to be on the rise recently, some contend that products manufactured from wood, such as building materials, are not only&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wfs.swst.org\/index.php\/wfs\/article\/view\/1339\">significant carbon stores<\/a>&nbsp;but can also substitute other, non-renewable materials, such as concrete or steel, whose production contributes large amounts of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large
