Under the hood, production and inventories eased, while new orders and employment ticked up, suggesting demand is holding up but factories aren\u2019t ramping output as quickly. The wrinkle is prices: the survey\u2019s prices-paid component rose even as activity cooled, which can look like firms are facing higher input costs without getting much extra volume.
