{"id":249847,"date":"2026-07-13T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T14:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/?p=249847"},"modified":"2026-07-14T04:16:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T08:16:27","slug":"gary-black-thinks-spacex-stock-could-soon-trade-below-its-ipo-price-heres-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.interactivebrokers.com\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/stocks\/gary-black-thinks-spacex-stock-could-soon-trade-below-its-ipo-price-heres-why\/","title":{"rendered":"Gary Black Thinks SpaceX Stock Could Soon Trade Below Its IPO Price\u2014Here&#8217;s Why"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investor&nbsp;<strong>Gary Black<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>The Future Fund LLC<\/strong>&nbsp;said on Monday that&nbsp;<strong>Elon Musk<\/strong>-led&nbsp;<strong>Space Exploration Technologies Corp.<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/SPCX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(NASDAQ:SPCX<\/a>)&nbsp;shares&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/equities\/26\/07\/60405405\/spacex-stock-hits-all-time-low-as-analysts-predict-a-65-surge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">could drop below the IPO price<\/a>&nbsp;of $135\/share in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-spcx-s-share-lock-up\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">SPCX\u2019s Share Lock-Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a post on&nbsp;<strong>X<\/strong>, the investor said that the company\u2019s shares will likely fall below \u201cits $135 IPO price as 20% of locked shares become free in early-August.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investor is pointing to the IPO\u2019s structure that will allow insiders, excluding Musk and other majority shareholders, to sell up to 20% of the shares owned by them following SpaceX\u2019s second-quarter earnings call, according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/2026\/07\/11\/spacex-ipo-lock-up-buying-opportunity-or-trap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;by The Motley Fool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report said insiders can also sell up to 7% of their shares on the 70th, 90th, 105th, 120th and 135th days after the company\u2019s public debut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another 28% of shares can be sold following SpaceX\u2019s third-quarter earnings call. An additional 10% of shares can be sold if SPCX trades 30% higher than its IPO price for five out of 10 days in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-gary-black-decries-tesla-valuation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gary Black Decries Tesla Valuation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investor also lamented&nbsp;<strong>Tesla Inc.<\/strong>\u2018s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/TSLA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(NASDAQ:<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/TSLA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TSLA<\/a>)&nbsp;valuation. \u201cAs much as I love $TSLA the company, it\u2019s difficult to support the valuation,\u201d with the investor saying that its price-to-earnings ratio was 209 times compared to earnings-per-share growth of 35%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also called out bullish Tesla supporters who \u201cignore valuation\u201d concerns as \u201cunsupervised autonomy becomes commoditized,\u201d the investor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Black had earlier said that the company\u2019s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology was not enough&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/analyst-stock-ratings\/analyst-color\/26\/07\/60351676\/gary-black-says-teslas-valuation-is-so-stretched-that-most-institutional-investors-wont-touch-the-stock-and-fsd-isnt-helping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to justify its valuation<\/a>, arguing that institutional investors would \u201cavoid the stock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investor had also said that despite Tesla\u2019s second-quarter 2026 delivery figures largely exceeding Wall Street expectations as the automaker delivered over 480,000 units during the second quarter, Tesla\u2019s stock tumbled because of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/tech\/26\/07\/60271300\/gary-black-says-teslas-q2-delivery-beat-was-fueled-by-iran-war-driven-gas-price-spike-expects-tsla-to-rebound-ahead-of-earnings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Iran war-driven gas price<\/a>&nbsp;volatility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Price Action:<\/strong>&nbsp;SpaceX shares were down 0.97% to $143.90 during pre-market trading on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally Posted July 13, 2026 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/news\/space\/26\/07\/60408883\/gary-black-thinks-spacex-stock-could-soon-trade-below-its-ipo-price-heres-why\">Gary Black Thinks SpaceX Stock Could Soon Trade Below Its IPO Price\u2014Here&#8217;s Why<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Investor Gary Black of The Future Fund LLC said on Monday that Elon Musk-led Space Exploration Technologies Corp.
