This Monday\u2019s Canadian Consumer Price Index (CPI) is expected to reflect a modest acceleration from April\u2019s 2.8%, as heavy energy costs lift the annualized figure, similar to the prints of other countries for last month in particular. Projections generally range from 2.9% to 3%; however, there are some forecasters that think a steady number is in the cards due to the nation\u2019s sluggish economy and especially its ailing housing sector. But a deceleration down  is highly unlikely in my view as the adverse impacts of elevated oil charges signal a significantly narrow path for a decrease to 2.7% or 2.6% to occur. In the Interactive Brokers Prediction Market<\/a> though, the \u201cYes\u201d at 2.6% is going for just $0.76, and I believe it\u2019s undervalued and should be closer to $0.93, in my opinion. This trade would deliver $1.00 to investors on a result greater than or equal to 2.7%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to joining Interactive Brokers, Jos\u00e9 spent 6 years working as an economist in the United States government within the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). During his time with the U.S. government, Jos\u00e9 frequently led presentations covering economic conditions and forecasts for elected officials, political appointees and senior management. He also built economic models, consulted with private sector executives, contributed to the modernization of economic processes and gained recognition for predicting the inflationary episode of the 2020s. Jos\u00e9 has also been a professor of economics at the City University of New York and holds a master\u2019s degree in financial economics from West Texas A&M University.
