This is Jeff Praissman with the Interactive Brokers Podcast.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0my pleasure to welcome back to the podcast studio Scott Bauer from Prosper Trading Academy.\u00a0Hey,\u00a0Scott, how are\u00a0you?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeff, I am great.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0summertime.\u00a0How\u00a0you\u00a0doing?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-0\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m\u00a0good. And for our listeners, Scott joins us\u00a0basically every\u00a0other week, comes in the studio. We do a quick talk on the markets, a quick update about the past week, what to look forward to for the next week, and provides a lot of great material for us on our site, ibkr.com. But, Scott, as we usually do,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0kind of start\u00a0off with the past week and what were some of the biggest individual stock movers this week, and what was driving that momentum?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-0\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s still really in the tech and even energy space.\u00a0So\u00a0a company like Marvell, right?\u00a0Which I don&#8217;t want to say out of the blue, but Nvidia came out with some really positive news, and we saw Marvell just skyrocket.\u00a0HPE, Hewlett-Packard, one of the names that maybe has been left in the dust, all of a\u00a0sudden\u00a0they came out mentioning\u00a0AI, blah, blah, blah, and the stock&#8217;s up 25%.\u00a0MongoDB, MDB, this thing had a range after earnings, and\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0trading about 360 right now. This thing traded down to 260, up to 420, now sitting right\u00a0kind of in\u00a0the middle there.\u00a0So\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0still seeing these wild swings in the tech AI space.\u00a0Also\u00a0energy. Some of the energy stocks have really been moving as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-1\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, I was\u00a0gonna\u00a0say, AI and energy have been at the top of the list for quite a while, right? Like AI, everyone, you mention AI, like you said, and all of\u00a0a sudden things\u00a0are to the moon. And energy, obviously, with everything going on in the world too, is a hot topic.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are there any other kind of investment themes that you&#8217;re seeing some movements in momentum, or anything else kind of popping up?&nbsp;Or is it really kind of sticking to the AI and energy area?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-1\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They&#8217;re\u00a0getting all the top billing here.\u00a0But I think it&#8217;s definitely worthwhile to look at some of the retailers that maybe got beaten up a little bit and are, in my opinion, worth really looking at some upside, like Costco and Walmart.\u00a0We talk about the K-shaped economy, and if\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0really two stocks out there, two retail stocks that stand to benefit,\u00a0I think Costco and Walmart\u00a0are those two.\u00a0Costco just traded down under 950 or so off of those highs.\u00a0Looks really bright to me.\u00a0Same with Walmart.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-2\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah.\u00a0And as long as you get a $1.50 hot dog deal at Costco, you&#8217;re good to go, right?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-2\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I prefer\u00a0the pizza slice.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-3\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah,\u00a0pizza&#8217;s\u00a0good. I definitely miss\u00a0the pizza.\u00a0So\u00a0a week ahead, though, right? Obviously,\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0always tons of data being released, and\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0just in a data-driven world. And this is something you and I always\u00a0kind of discuss. Which upcoming data releases may have the potential to move equities the most?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-3\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, Friday we get non-farm payrolls, right?\u00a0So\u00a0everybody&#8217;s\u00a0gonna\u00a0be looking at that one. And I think\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0going to be\u00a0very important, just given where the Fed stands, where Warsh is.\u00a0I think it\u00a0is\u00a0maybe a\u00a0little bit overblown just because there is so much focus.\u00a0But now that the inflation\u00a0data&#8217;s\u00a0behind us, NFPs is really\u00a0gonna\u00a0be it. And\u00a0we&#8217;ll\u00a0see how the market reacts because we want a lot of jobs\u00a0created out\u00a0there.\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not so sure that the\u00a0market&#8217;s\u00a0gonna\u00a0react nicely to that, though.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-4\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right. And finally, something\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0near and dear to both our hearts: volatility. How did that perform over the past week, and are\u00a0traders\u00a0kind of giving\u00a0any expectations where they expect it to go over the next five days?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-4\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeff, there is a massive dispersion in the marketplace when we talk about volatility. We can look at the VIX, which is trading the lowest that\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0traded since January, somewhere in the 15\u00a0handle. But at the same time, individual stock volatility is the highest\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0ever been. The dispersion between those two, so the difference, is the highest\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0ever been.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So&nbsp;what that tells us is, if you look at the VIX being muted,&nbsp;maybe there&#8217;s&nbsp;less of a macro concern. But when you look at these individual stock volatilities, people, investors, traders, retail, are just looking for these continuous big moves in either direction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-5\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s\u00a0actually a\u00a0really interesting\u00a0point, just that kind of macro versus\u00a0micro outlook\u00a0on volatility too.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-5\">Scott Bauer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exactly. Exactly. And this is, I think, in the last three years, since\u00a0actually CBO\u00a0started measuring this, the widest disparity\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0ever been.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-6\">Jeff Praissman<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, Scott, this has been great, as always.
