Now, this is all early days \u2013 but it would push the firm past&nbsp;<strong>OpenAI<\/strong>, which is currently valued at $852 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25b6 Anthropic\u2019s already outpacing OpenAI in both coding ability and business use. And now, the former is fielding unsolicited funding offers while the latter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/finimize.com\/content\/openais-ipo-is-looking-a-bit-more-iffy-po\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">misses<\/a>&nbsp;its growth and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/finimize.com\/glossary\/revenue\">revenue<\/a>&nbsp;targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25b6 If this funding round goes ahead, Anthropic would become the world\u2019s most valuable AI startup. That could be pretty nifty ahead of its rumored October IPO\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-should-i-care\"><strong>Why should I care?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Zooming in:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<em>Choose your champion.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is all hot on the heels of Anthropic receiving some big funding commitments from&nbsp;<strong>Google<\/strong>&nbsp;(up to $40 billion) and&nbsp;<strong>Amazon<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/finimize.com\/content\/anthropic-just-inked-a-massive-ai-infrastructure-deal-with-amazon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">another<\/a>&nbsp;$25 billion). That\u2019s similar to the kind of cash&nbsp;<strong>Microsoft<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.finimize.com\/content\/with-a-new-deal-microsoft-and-openai-are-joined-at-the-chip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poured<\/a>&nbsp;into OpenAI. For investors, the AI race is starting to look less like a startup story and more like a strategic battle between Big Tech firms, fought through their AI proxies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>The bigger picture:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<em>Too smart for its own good.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anthropic&#8217;s latest model can find and exploit software vulnerabilities much faster than any human \u2013 making it as much a cyberweapon as a product. Access to the tech has been tightly restricted \u2013 and when Anthropic tried to widen the circle, the US government pushed back hard. That means Anthropic could be morphing from a scale-at-all-costs startup into something closer to a defense contractor, with the narrow commercial market that brings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f The most powerful AI products are precisely the ones that governments will restrict or claim first. And that creates a sort of irony, where the tech\u2019s capabilities \u2013 the ones that determine its sky-high valuations \u2013 might be the very thing that&nbsp;<em>limits<\/em>&nbsp;valuations in
