In an annual tradition dating back to\u00a02022, your author and Heptagon\u2019s Chief Technology Officer met to discuss all things tech, cyber and AI. Our most recent conversation was particularly pertinent, coming hot on the heels of the release of\u00a0Claude Mythos, currently the most capable AI model\u00a0<em>ever<\/em>\u00a0built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cWe\u2019re getting closer to singularity\u201d,<\/strong>\u00a0was one of the key messages from our meet-up. In this worldview, AI systems become capable of improving on their own intelligence, rapidly creating generations of superior AI that far exceed human cognitive abilities. The rate of progress even relative to a year ago, when we last conversed\u00a0, has been \u201cnight and day.\u201d\u00a0<strong>The latest AI tools available can \u201cdouble productivity\u201d<\/strong>, based on multiple anecdotal data points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crucially, there is no point in seeking to fight the direction of travel. Instead,&nbsp;<strong>with \u201cthe genie out of the bottle\u201d, we should lean into the benefits that AI can bring to organisations<\/strong>, freeing employees up for \u201cmore valuable tasks.\u201d In the future, \u201cAI [could be] the new UI.\u201d Imagine one user interface that could potentially replace the need to switch between multiple programmes such as Teams, Outlook, Office and web browsers to complete assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fear not, humans won\u2019t be (fully) replaced by automatons any time soon. We were both in agreement that&nbsp;<strong>AI \u201cwon\u2019t kill relationships\u201d<\/strong>, even in a world that may be progressing towards a point of singularity.&nbsp;<strong>A&nbsp;<em>better&nbsp;<\/em>form of AI might be one \u201cnot restrained by biases\u201d that \u201ccould create a new language.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, recognise that\u00a0<strong>large language models are \u201cbuilt by imperfect humans.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0This reinforces the logic to &#8220;question everything&#8221;. Humans \u2013 whether performing business processes or faced with cyber threats \u2013 remain \u201cthe weakest link in the chain.\u201d Even in a world where AI plays an increasingly important role,\u00a0<strong>\u201csecurity is permanent\u2026 without it, what\u2019s the point<\/strong>\u00a0[of data]?\u201d This accords with our\u00a0long-standing view\u00a0and reinforces the logic of ongoing training.
