The move looks like a pause, not a reversal: gold is still up roughly 17% over the past month and about 83% over the past year. Demand hasn\u2019t just been financial: ETF inflows have picked up and central banks have kept adding to reserves. A softer US dollar has helped too, since it makes dollar-priced metals cheaper for non-US buyers \u2013 and uncertainty is keeping the safe-haven bid alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-should-i-care\"><strong>Why should I care?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>For markets:<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<em>The Fed can sway gold even without a rate move.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Markets expect the Fed to hold rates steady, but the statement and forecasts could reset expectations for when cuts start. That matters because lower yields reduce the opportunity cost of owning gold, which doesn\u2019t pay&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/finimize.com\/glossary\/interest\">interest<\/a>. With the dollar index near its lowest since early 2022 and Treasury yields off their peaks, a dovish tilt could keep supporting precious metals \u2013 while a surprise hawkish tone could jolt them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The bigger picture:<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<em>Gold is back to being a stress signal.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This rally isn\u2019t just about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/finimize.com\/glossary\/inflation\">inflation<\/a>: it\u2019s also been fueled by safe-haven demand and official-sector buying.
