{"id":237751,"date":"2026-01-23T11:45:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T16:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/?p=237751"},"modified":"2026-01-26T04:58:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T09:58:48","slug":"tiktok-avoids-us-ban-as-bytedance-seals-majority-american-owned-venture-backed-by-oracle-silver-lake-mgx-happy-to-have-helped-says-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.interactivebrokers.com\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/stocks\/tiktok-avoids-us-ban-as-bytedance-seals-majority-american-owned-venture-backed-by-oracle-silver-lake-mgx-happy-to-have-helped-says-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"TikTok Avoids US Ban As ByteDance Seals Majority American-Owned Venture Backed By Oracle, Silver Lake, MGX: &#8216;Happy To Have Helped,&#8217; Says Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>TikTok<\/strong>\u00a0has secured its future in the U.S. after its Chinese parent\u00a0<strong>ByteDance<\/strong>\u00a0finalized a deal creating a majority\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/tech\/25\/12\/49497717\/tiktok-strikes-deal-to-form-new-joint-venture-with-oracle-silver-lake-as-bytedance-loosens-grip-to-avoid-us-ban-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American-owned joint venture<\/a>\u00a0designed to address national security concerns and comply with U.S. law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tiktok-reaches-deal-to-comply-with-us-divestment-law\"><strong>TikTok Reaches Deal To Comply With US Divestment Law<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, ByteDance said it has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/equities\/26\/01\/50068287\/tiktok-deal-sealed-us-china-approve-historic-american-spinoff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">completed an agreement<\/a>&nbsp;establishing&nbsp;<strong>TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a new entity that will oversee U.S. user data, the app and its recommendation algorithm, effectively averting a nationwide ban of the short-video platform used by more than 200 million Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move follows years of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/tech\/26\/01\/49746261\/donald-trump-once-tried-to-ban-tiktok-now-trump-related-videos-have-racked-up-339-billion-views-as-he-builds-a-16-million-follower-army-on-the-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scrutiny that began in 2020<\/a>, when President&nbsp;<strong>Donald Trump&nbsp;<\/strong>sought to ban TikTok over national security risks tied to its Chinese ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 2024 law later required ByteDance to divest TikTok&#8217;s U.S. assets or face a ban, a measure upheld by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>American Investors Take Control Of Data And Algorithm<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the deal, American and global investors will own 80.1% of the venture, while ByteDance will retain a 19.9% minority stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oracle Corp.<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/ORCL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(NYSE:<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/ORCL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ORCL<\/a>),&nbsp;<strong>Silver Lake<\/strong>&nbsp;and Abu Dhabi-based&nbsp;<strong>MGX<\/strong>&nbsp;will each hold 15% and serve as managing investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TikTok said U.S. user data and the recommendation algorithm will be secured in Oracle&#8217;s U.S.-based cloud, with new privacy and cybersecurity safeguards in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The venture will retrain and test the algorithm using only U.S. user data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Trump Praises Deal, Thanks China&#8217;s Xi Jinping<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump welcomed the agreement in a&nbsp;<strong>Truth Social<\/strong>&nbsp;post, saying, &#8220;I am so happy to have helped in saving TikTok! It will now be owned by a group of Great American Patriots and Investors.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also thanked Chinese President<strong>&nbsp;Xi Jinping<\/strong>&nbsp;for approving the deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Price Action:\u00a0<\/strong>Oracle shares closed up 2.47% at $178.18 on Thursday and rose another 0.32% to $178.76 in after-hours trading, according to Benzinga
