Congratulations. I know you have a big connection to the school. Unfortunately, your Bears\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0come through for\u00a0you,\u00a0it was an exciting game, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-0\"><strong>Scott Bauer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was. But if one of the two had to win, that was the one.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-1\"><strong>Jeff Praissman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, I definitely agree. Anyway,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0great to have you back in the studio. For our listeners, we do a quick market update\u2014what happened last week, what we think might happen this week, and any potential\u00a0impacts.\u00a0So\u00a0let\u2019s\u00a0kick things off.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It feels like&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;always talking about tariffs, but now there\u2019s renewed discussion around proposed tariffs on Europe related to Greenland. With negotiations ongoing, are we seeing any effect on the markets yet, or is this more of a wait-and-see situation?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-1\"><strong>Scott Bauer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0seeing the effects in real time, Jeff. You can look at President Trump\u2019s comments this morning in Davos, where he discussed not wanting to use force over Greenland and addressed the broader tariff situation, and how the market reacted to that.\u00a0This whole situation really has investors worldwide on edge.\u00a0We\u2019ve seen volatility following the latest rhetoric, and it\u2019s definitely something we have to watch closely, because markets can move on a dime based on this kind of news.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-2\"><strong>Jeff Praissman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0also a shortened week. Markets were closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0still a busy one, especially with earnings season underway.\u00a0What\u2019s\u00a0the market really focusing on over the next week or so? Which earnings are you watching most closely?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-2\"><strong>Scott Bauer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think we\u00a0almost\u00a0have to\u00a0look ahead to next week. I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want to discount what we have this week, but next week features some of the earnings the market is really hinging on\u2014Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and then Alphabet the following week.\u00a0These are the names the market is watching to answer some big questions: Is the AI trade still intact? Is Big Tech\u2014the \u201cMagnificent Seven\u201d\u2014still going to lead this market?\u00a0So\u00a0while this week matters, earnings-wise, that\u2019s really where the focus is.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-3\"><strong>Jeff Praissman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right, which makes sense, given how much those companies drove market activity in 2025. And while earnings will dominate the business headlines, we also have some key economic data coming up\u2014initial\u00a0jobless claims on the 22nd, consumer confidence on the 27th, and of course the big one: the FOMC interest rate decision on the 28th.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How much impact do these reports have during earnings season? If they come in&nbsp;roughly in&nbsp;line with expectations, do they become more of&nbsp;a non-event?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-3\"><strong>Scott Bauer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the data\u00a0comes in\u00a0within a normalized range, it may not be as impactful. But what really stands out to me is PCE, which\u00a0comes\u00a0out tomorrow. The big question is whether inflation continues to come down\u2014there\u2019s\u00a0still a real tug-of-war around that.\u00a0 Another thing investors should be paying close attention to tomorrow is the 10-year TIPS auction. TIPS are Treasury securities designed to hedge against inflation, and the 10-year yield\u2014currently hovering around 4.20% to 4.30%\u2014makes this auction especially important. I think\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0something worth watching very closely.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-4\"><strong>Jeff Praissman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely. For our final question, I want to switch gears and talk about the oil industry. How has it\u00a0performed\u00a0since the capture of Maduro, and are there specific areas that could benefit more than others\u2014such as drilling, exploration, or production?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-4\"><strong>Scott Bauer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s really intriguing.\u00a0We know President Trump wants major companies to get in there, start drilling, and begin extracting\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0estimated to be over 300 billion barrels of oil still in the ground. But for companies like Chevron and others, it\u00a0ultimately comes\u00a0down to cost analysis.\u00a0There are two sides to this, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0more complicated than people realize. Even if these companies move forward,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0going to take time. If I were looking at one segment of the oil industry, it would\u00a0probably be\u00a0the drillers\u2014but\u2014\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-5\"><strong>Jeff Praissman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014so\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0not just a situation where you start\u00a0drilling\u00a0and oil pops out everywhere, right?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scott-bauer-5\"><strong>Scott Bauer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exactly. I have this image in my head of a Three Stooges episode where they hit\u00a0oil\u00a0and it shoots everywhere\u2014but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0definitely not\u00a0like that.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0far more involved, and even if companies move in,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0going to be\u00a0a long process.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jeff-praissman-6\"><strong>Jeff Praissman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scott, this has been great, as always.
