Food, medicine, rent \u2014 everything essential has become harder to afford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traders and shopkeepers were among the first to take to the streets as inflation accelerated, but protests have since spread across major cities and universities. The central bank chief has resigned, flights are being cancelled, and the country is now in a near\u2011total internet blackout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phones, payments, and even satellite\u2011based services like Starlink are being disrupted, slowing commerce and cutting off digital tools people rely on to navigate daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sanctions-and-the-squeeze-on-exports\"><strong>Sanctions and the Squeeze on Exports<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Years of sanctions have left Iran with limited access to foreign currency and global finance.
