That\u2019s what we had yesterday and seemed to be having this morning.&nbsp; Nope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, we see a relatively broad-based, tech-led selloff.\u00a0 The activity fits with the general \u201c<a href=\"\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/stocks\/the-routation-continues\/\">routation<\/a>\u201d theme that has prevailed for much of the past few weeks.\u00a0 As we approach midday, the S&amp;P 500 (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"SPX\">SPX<\/span>) is down about -0.75% and the Nasdaq 100 (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"NDX\">NDX<\/span>) is down about -1.5%.\u00a0 All the \u201cGreat Eight\u201d stocks (the \u201cMagnificent Seven\u201d plus Broadcom (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"AVGO\">AVGO<\/span>) are lower.\u00a0 Nvidia (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"NVDA\">NVDA<\/span>) is leading the way down, with today\u2019s -6% drop making for a nearly -15% drop over the past five days.\u00a0 It is difficult, if not impossible, for the aforementioned indices to escape that gravitational pull.\u00a0 The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) is hardly immune, down over -3% today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet the \u201croutation\u201d continues to leave broad swaths of the market relatively unscathed.&nbsp; Advancing and declining stocks are roughly even, and the Russell 2000 (RTY) is essentially unchanged.&nbsp; The Russell 1000 Value ETF (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"VONV\">VONV<\/span>) is up very slightly even as the decline in its Growth counterpart (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"VONG\">VONG<\/span>) is similar to NDX\u2019 -1.5%.&nbsp; As far as major selloffs are concerned, this remains a very <a href=\"\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/stocks\/has-healthy-rotation-become-potentially-toxic\/\">concentrated one<\/a>.&nbsp; The problem of course is that the rally was <a href=\"\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/stocks\/stock-market-jenga\/\">similarly concentrated<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considering that markets are meant to be forward-looking, here is what they have to look forward to this week (all times EDT):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Today (Tuesday), after the close: Microsoft (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"MSFT\">MSFT<\/span>) and AMD earnings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Overnight: Bank of Japan meeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon, during trading: FOMC meeting and Powell press conference<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tomorrow after the close: META earnings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Thursday after the close: Apple (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"AAPL\">AAPL<\/span>) and Amazon (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"AMZN\">AMZN<\/span>) earnings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Friday before the opening: June Jobs Report<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any or all of these events has the potential to move markets.&nbsp; We all know about the power of the FOMC and Jobs Report, but I am actually quite concerned about the outcome of the BOJ meeting tonight.&nbsp; There is currently a 70% chance that they will raise rates by 10 basis points at this meeting.&nbsp; That hardly seems meaningful, but it is clearly an \u201cin-play\u201d meeting (as opposed to the 4% chance for a Fed rate cut).&nbsp; aspect-ratio: 1100\/612;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Source: Bloomberg<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week we all saw what could happen when <a href=\"\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/stocks\/tapping-the-brakes-on-futurism\/\">megacap tech stocks disappointed<\/a>.&nbsp; Tesla (TSLA) sank by a double-digit percentage after missing on EPS and other metrics, but more ominously, Alphabet (<span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"GOOG\">GOOG<\/span>, <span class=\"stock-ticker\" data-stock-ticker=\"GOOGL\">GOOGL<\/span>) fell even after a seemingly solid report.&nbsp; Investors were unhappy with the lack of clarity about when that company\u2019s billions in AI-related spending would yield bottom-line results.&nbsp; This was a <a href=\"\/campus\/traders-insight\/securities\/options\/zuck-says-the-quiet-part-about-ai-aloud-plus-msft-and-goog\/?query=zuck&amp;query_id=b077fbf882712d8573da5b20cf238ab8&amp;index=prod_ibkrcampus_en&amp;user_token=anonymous-ab2cddb6-49e7-4567-a8d5-7379570809cb\">concern raised by META<\/a> after it\u2019s last report, but it soon faded into the background after investors resumed their love affair with all things tech.&nbsp; With the infatuation fading, it will be up to each of the four megacaps reporting this week to justify their AI investing with a path to near-term profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One has to wonder if the sporadic outages that MSFT experienced today are auspicious.&nbsp; Options traders are pricing in a roughly 4.6% daily move between now and Friday afternoon.&nbsp; That is above recent post-earnings history for the stock (+1.8%, -2.7%, +3.1%, -3.8%, +7.2%, -0.6%), indicating that last week\u2019s GOOGL sell-off might be weighing upon expectations.&nbsp;
