EV Maker Could Get Bumped By These Companies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-zinger-key-points\">ZINGER KEY POINTS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eli Lilly and Berkshire Hathaway now have market caps above that of Tesla<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Broadcom sits just below Tesla, but it could be the Mega Tech to join the illustrious group<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tesla<\/strong>\u2018s&nbsp;standing within the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/topic\/magnificent-seven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Magnificent Seven is in question<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\"><strong>What Happened<\/strong>: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Austin, Texas-based electric vehicle (EV) company now stands at number nine on the list of biggest companies on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/topic\/s-p-500-index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the S&amp;P 500 index<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, when looking at the top seven stocks on the S&amp;P 500 index with the largest market caps, then Tesla doesn\u2019t rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Elon Musk<\/strong>-led carmaker\u2019s recent share price slump coincides with a dramatic drop in market cap. Back in November 2021, Tesla stock enjoyed a record of nearly $410 \u2014 putting its market cap at $1.31 trillion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been on a broadly downward trajectory ever since. The company has also been relegated from seventh to ninth on the mega-cap leaderboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if one were to define the Magnificent Seven as simply the seven biggest and most influential technology stocks, one could argue that other companies are more worthy of the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Magnificent Contenders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s first look at&nbsp;<strong>Broadcom<\/strong>, a major semiconductor designer and manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It currently sits with a market cap just a couple of billion dollars below Tesla. The difference is that its shares have been on a long-term incline. Its market cap has more than doubled since the beginning of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"650\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-76.png\" alt=\"AVGO Price trajectory\" class=\"wp-image-202252 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-76.png 750w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-76-700x607.png 700w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-76-300x260.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; aspect-ratio: 750\/650;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With still a month to go before it reports fourth quarter and annual earnings, consensus expectations are for $10.61 earnings per share during the October-December period, up 2.7% over the previous year, and revenues of $11.27 billion, up 26.4% on the year-ago number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But 2024 is predicted by many to be the year that artificial intelligence use cases take off and provide huge profits to the companies that supply the powerful processing gear. For the next fiscal year, Broadcom is expected to post earnings per share of $56.59 \u2014 up 19% on 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s these kinds of numbers that impress analysts such as Morgan Stanley which, this week,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/analyst-ratings\/analyst-color\/24\/02\/36963789\/broadcoms-tech-dominance-affirmed-by-jpmorgan-analyst-forecasts-company-will-lead-a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">added Broadcom to its U.S. Focus List<\/a>, initiating coverage of the stock with an Overweight rating and a $1,550 price target, indicating 22% upside from the current share price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Above Tesla On Market Cap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tech companies aside, two stocks have recently crept above Tesla as the EV maker\u2019s shares have fallen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Berkshire Hathaway<\/strong>\u2018s&nbsp;class A shares alone rank the&nbsp;<strong>Warren Buffett<\/strong>&nbsp;investment vehicle at number seven among the biggest market caps, with the shares worth a total $861.4 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can be said about this company that hasn\u2019t already been said: an average of nearly 20% annual profit growth over an astonishing six decades, ran by one of the world\u2019s richest men, the company is closing in on an illustrious $1 trillion market cap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eli Lilly and Company<\/strong>\u2018s&nbsp;shares have enjoyed an even better ride than Broadcom\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently at record levels around $740, thanks to the spectacular success of its diabetes\/anti-obesity blockbusters Mounjaro and Zepbound, its shares have doubled in less than a year and trebled since March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"650\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-77.png\" alt=\"LLY Price trajectory\" class=\"wp-image-202251 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-77.png 750w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-77-700x607.png 700w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/02\/newplot-77-300x260.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; aspect-ratio: 750\/650;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It reported its fourth-quarter earnings earlier this week, and they were well received \u2014 the shares, after hitting a record high on the day, fell to profit-taking, but have since recovered ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also liked by analysts, with Morgan Stanley and Barclays among the institutions raising their price targets on the stock \u2014 MS to $805 and Barclays to $810.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can Tesla Recover Its Place?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s hard to say how Tesla might recover. Its shares have been on a long-term decline, despite the rally over 2023. Musk can be the make or break of this company, with his erratic behavior often eclipsing the company\u2019s more newsworthy developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fourth-quarter numbers weren\u2019t well received, with signs of slowing demand for electric vehicles casting an ominous shadow on future earnings growth.
