What if we want to change the&nbsp;<strong>last modified<\/strong>&nbsp;date of the file (let\u2019s suppose the file\u2019s not that important)? Let\u2019s say, for instance, we want to make a file have a last modified date back in the 1980\u2019s. We can do that with one line of code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let\u2019s use&nbsp;<strong>file.info<\/strong>&nbsp;to check the current modified date of some file called&nbsp;<strong>test.txt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">file.info(\"test.txt\")<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"55\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/theautomatic-net-r-dates-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-191475 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/theautomatic-net-r-dates-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ibkrcampus.com\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/theautomatic-net-r-dates-1-300x26.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 640px; aspect-ratio: 640\/55;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We can see above by looking at&nbsp;<strong>mtime<\/strong>&nbsp;that this file was last modified December 4th, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, we can use a function called&nbsp;<strong>Sys.setFileTime<\/strong>&nbsp;to change the modified date to any date including or after January 1, 1970.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">Sys.setFileTime(\"test.txt\", \"1980-12-04\")<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The base R function above takes the file name as the first parameter, and the date for the second parameter.
