The data comes as part of the latest&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/empsit.nr0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">jobs report<\/a>, which showed that the US economy added 311,000 jobs last month, well above the expected 205,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-us-economy-added-311k-jobs-in-february-smashing-expectations\">US Economy Added 311K Jobs in February, Smashing Expectations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest jobs data exceeded expectations once again. According to the Labor Department report, the US economy added 311,000 jobs in February, smashing the economists\u2019 expectations of 205,000 jobs. The unemployment rate rose by 0.2% to 3.6%, also above the consensus projections of 3.4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe unemployment rate is up 0.2% to 3.6%, higher than forecast. Contributing to upward pressure here, there were more people looking for work.\u201d\u2013 said Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst at Bankrate<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Average hourly earnings in the US rose by 4.6% year-over-year in February, marking the 23rd straight month where inflation exceeded wage growth annually. Month-on-month, average hourly earnings increased by 0.2% in February after climbing 0.3% a month earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Higher Chances of a Higher Interest Rate Hike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While the latest jobs data marks a notable pullback from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chase.com\/personal\/investments\/learning-and-insights\/article\/january-jobs-report-reveals-517000-new-jobs-and-a-drop-in-unemployment#:~:text=The%20U.S.%20added%20517%2C000%20nonfarm,more%20than%20doubling%20economists'%20estimates.&amp;text=The%20unemployment%20rate%20fell%20to,Job%20gains%20were%20broad%20based.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whopping 504,000 positions<\/a>&nbsp;added in January, it still shows that the US labor market remains red hot. Economists said that myriad factors, such as warmer-than-expected weather and annual benchmark revisions to the data, fueled the blockbuster job growth in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US labor market, one of the sources of record&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tokenist.com\/us-inflation-declines-for-the-7th-consecutive-month-january-cpi-at-6-4\/\">high inflation<\/a>, showed its resilience again despite the Federal Reserve\u2019s efforts to slow the economy through a series of jumbo interest rate hikes over the past year. The US central bank delivered two&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tokenist.com\/first-fomc-meeting-of-2023-brings-a-25bps-hike\/\">25 basis points (bps) rate hikes<\/a>&nbsp;in 2023, marking a more dovish approach than last year\u2019s tightening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Fed Chairman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tokenist.com\/the-dollar-index-slips-as-consensus-grows-for-a-25-bps-hike\/\">Jerome Powell told Congress<\/a>&nbsp;earlier this week that the bank would likely need to switch back to bigger rate hikes. Before the latest jobs data, financial markets had priced in a 50 bps rate increase at the upcoming Fed policy meeting on March 21 and 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since March 2022, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/14\/fed-rate-decision-december-2022.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fed has raised<\/a>&nbsp;its policy rate from near zero to 4.50%-4.75%.
