Invesco\u2019s Nasdaq&nbsp;100 ETF&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=qqq&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QQQ<\/a>)&nbsp;led&nbsp;the way higher, adding 2.2%.&nbsp;State Street&#8217;s S&amp;P 500 Index ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=spy&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPY<\/a>)&nbsp;and&nbsp;Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=dia&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DIA<\/a>)&nbsp;gained&nbsp;1.4% and 0.7%, respectively. The iShares Russell 2000 ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=iwm&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IWM<\/a>)&nbsp;fell&nbsp;by 0.2%.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first glance, Friday\u2019s market selloff could be seen as an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/e\/exhaustiongap.asp?utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exhaustion gap<\/a>\u201d. The exhaustion gap is a technical signal marked by a break lower in prices that occurs after a rapid rise in a stock or index\u2019s price over several weeks prior. This can reflect a significant shift from buying to selling activity, which implies that an upward trend may be about to end soon.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chart below illustrates the recent upward trend of SPY since mid-October. After a period of consolidation in November, Friday\u2019s candle represents a significant break from the upward trend. Friday\u2019s selloff came amid fears of the rise of the Omicron variant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investors will be watching to see how the market responds to this new strain of the virus. Monday\u2019s gains could be seen as a reaction to a potentially oversold market and volume returning following Friday\u2019s abbreviated holiday session. Investors will monitor how markets react after seemingly resetting from Friday\u2019s selloff, which could either be the exhaustion gap signifying the end of an upward trend, or a speed bump on the road to new highs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/1-15-1100x597.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-113084 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1100px; aspect-ratio: 1100\/597;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-has-moderna-peaked\">2\/ <strong>Has Moderna Peaked?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the heels of the weekend news of the Omicron variant, investors have bid up the share prices of Moderna (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=mrna&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MRNA<\/a>). Shares of the pharmaceutical giant are trading at the top of the volatility range and well above its 20-day moving average, as illustrated on the chart below.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, MRNA\u2019s chief medical officer said the company could roll out a reformulated vaccine against the new variant of COVID-19 early next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first glance, it appears option traders are positioning themselves for the MRNA share price to continue to rise. Monday\u2019s trading volumes featured over 183,000 call options compared to less than 82,000 puts. However, the open interest for MRNA has a nearly even number of bullish and bearish options.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though call options traded with heavy volume during Monday\u2019s more than 10% gain for MRNA stock, put options remain priced higher than calls after accounting for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/i\/intrinsicvalue.asp?utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">intrinsic value<\/a>. This could mean that option traders are taking the opportunity to sell call options for elevated price levels while MRNA stock is on the rise but are positioning themselves for the stock to pull back in the near term.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/2-17-1100x601.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-113087 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1100px; aspect-ratio: 1100\/601;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-traders-favor-pfizer\">3\/ <strong>Traders Favor Pfizer&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Moderna (MRNA) shares are moving higher on the Omicron news, shares of fellow Covid treatment provider Pfizer (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=pfe&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25871407&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PFE<\/a>)&nbsp;are&nbsp;slightly down today. Even with the small pullback, PFE shares are trading near the top of the volatility range, after having gapped up significantly on Friday.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PFE CEO Albert&nbsp;Bourla&nbsp;said Monday that he expects the company\u2019s COVID-19 treatment pill to be effective against the new Omicron variant. The pill has yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration but could have its application fast tracked for emergency use.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Option activity skews toward call options. The open interest for PFE features over 1.76 million calls compared to 1 million puts.
