Invesco\u2019s tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=qqq&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QQQ<\/a>)&nbsp;gained&nbsp;0.3%, a day after being punished by surging bond yields. State Street\u2019s S&amp;P 500 Index ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=spy&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPY<\/a>)&nbsp;rose&nbsp;0.1% while State Street\u2019s Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=dia&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DIA<\/a>)&nbsp;fell&nbsp;0.3%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chart below illustrates the recent moves of the S&amp;P 500 Index (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/SPX\/?utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPX<\/a>) with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/v\/vix.asp?utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cboe\u2019s&nbsp;Volatility Index<\/a>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/CBOE-VIX\/?utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VIX<\/a>). The VIX represents the market\u2019s expectations for the relative strength of near-term price changes of SPX. Derived from SPX option pricing, the VIX generates a forward projection of volatility, and is often seen as a gauge of market sentiment. Therefore, the VIX is sometimes referred to as the \u201cfear index\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SPX and VIX have an&nbsp;inverse&nbsp;correlation. When the market is falling, volatility tends to rise, and vice versa. SPX has been on a recent upward trend since mid-October. The VIX, meanwhile,&nbsp;hasn\u2019t&nbsp;retreated at the same relative pace. Even with SPX recently setting new highs, volatility was rising instead of falling. This could mean that investors have been wary of the sustainability of recent highs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/1-8-1100x556.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-111038 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1100px; aspect-ratio: 1100\/556;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-fallout-from-a-bigger-than-expected-loss\">2\/ <strong>Fallout From a Bigger-Than-Expected Loss&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The share price of Beyond Meat (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=bynd&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BYND<\/a>) gapped lower after the company announced disappointing third-quarter earnings results. Analysts expected the plant-based meat maker to announce a net loss of $0.39 and $106.1 million in volume. BYND reported a net loss of $0.87 and $106.43 million in volume. The wider-than-expected loss resulted in BYND receiving several price target downgrades, causing BYND shares to fall 14%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chart below compares the recent performance of BYND with State Street\u2019s Consumer Discretionary Sector ETF (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=xly&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">XLY<\/a>). Over the past year, BYND has greatly lagged its sector, as BYND has fallen 36% in that time frame while XLY has added 32%. This comes as rising inflation indicators could cause a slowdown in growth of XLY.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chart watchers should recognize that BYND\u2019s earnings-based share price decline has resulted in a 52-week low. While this could provide an opportunity for a short-term reversal, BYND\u2019s gloomy outlook for the fourth quarter may result in further downside soon.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"\/campus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/2-10-1100x588.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-111039 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1100px; aspect-ratio: 1100\/588;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-investors-option-traders-pessimistically-trading-astrazeneca\">3\/ <strong>Investors Option Traders Pessimistically Trading AstraZeneca&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Astrazeneca&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=azn&amp;utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AZN<\/a>)&nbsp;will&nbsp;report fiscal third-quarter earnings on Friday. Analysts are forecasting that the drug manufacturer will announce $1.25 in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/e\/eps.asp?utm_source=chart-advisor&amp;utm_campaign=fwd_chartadvisor&amp;utm_term=25672188&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">earnings per share (EPS)<\/a>&nbsp;to go with $9.58 billion in revenue. Investors will be watching to see how AZN\u2019s newer medicines and COVID-19 vaccines have driven the company\u2019s top line in the quarter.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Option traders appear to be positioned for the stock to move lower in the near term. The open interest for AZN features over 194,000 call options compared to 122,000 puts. This would normally be considered bullish. However, relative to average levels over the last 52-weeks for the put option open interest is much higher than usual. Call options, despite being greater in number than puts, are currently at a lower-than-average level in the open interest.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For options expiring Friday, the day that earnings are announced, the $56 put has the highest open interest.
