TWS Release Notes
The enhancements
and modifications below are in build 907 of TWS. To identify
the build number, on the TWS Help menu
select About Trader Workstation.
An addition to the US Corporate Bonds scanner includes a new set of filter and sort criteria for customers who subscribe to Reuters Worldwide Fundamentals. Reuters subscribers can now filter by Debt/Book Value, Debt/Tangible Book Value, Equity/ Book Value and Equity/Tangible Book Value. Sort orders include high to low or low to high for Debt/Equity, Debt/Book Value, Debt/Tangible Book Value, Equity/Book Value, and Equity/Tangible Book Value.
To subscribe to Reuters Worldwide Fundamentals, log into Account Management, and from the Trading Access menu select Market Data Subscriptions.
The TWS search feature has been enhanced to clearly incorporate the ticker lookup functionality, to allow the user to search on features that have been hidden using the Feature selector, and to accommodate the new "Shortcut Commands" which provide a quick way to access many TWS windows. Some available shortcut commands include: !scanner to open the Market Scanner page, !book to open the BookTrader, and !account to open the Account Information window. A complete list of commands can be found by clicking the shortcut code link in the mouse over help on the Search field or selecting Show Shortcuts from the Help menu in the Search tool. In addition, a new progress bar has been added so that you can see the progress of the search and know when it's nearing completion.
The action buttons on the order ticket have been revised to be more intuitive and informative.
- For a blank order ticket where the user is creating a new order, the action buttons presented are: Check Margin, Create Order, Create + Transmit Order and Discard.
- For an order ticket opened from a non-transmitted order which is generally used to make changes to the original order before transmitting, the action buttons are: Check Margin, Accept Changes, Accept Changes + Transmit Order and Discard Changes.
- For an order ticket opened from a transmitted order where a user wants to make changes and re-transmit, the action buttons presented are: Check Margin, Accept Changes, Accept Changes + Transmit Update and Discard Changes.
The dialog box that pops up when a user tries to view data for a security on an exchange to which they do not subscribe to market data has been redesigned to be more efficient to use. The customer can quickly choose whether to launch the data manager so that they can subscribe, use delayed data, or take no action and close the box.
The Feature Selector, designed to help you quickly display and hide TWS tools and features for a custom environment, has been removed from the Configuration menu and folded into the Global Configuration functionality. To find the Feature Selector, from the Configure menu select Global Configuration, and expand the "Features" entry at the bottom of the left pane.
A set of three "hot" buttons, Buy, Sell and Alert, have been added to the top of the right-click menu you see from a ticker line. These buttons provide instant action without requiring you to make your way through the menu. Clicking Buy or Sell will create an order line on the selected ticker. Clicking Alert will open the Alerts configuration tool with the Create Condition box populated with the selected ticker.
The Alerts function for charts, which can be accessed from the new hot buttons on the right-click menu from within the chart, has been streamlined to open an simple configuration box that initially offers only the Price Alert. A set of action buttons provides additional options: Activate saves and activates the alert; Cancel cancels the alert and closes the Configure Chart Alerts box; Additional Parameters opens the comprehensive Alerts window to allow creation of a more sophisticated set of Alert criteria. In addition, the Alert outside of RTH (regular trading hours) is checked by default.
The display actions on the trading pages have been refined in many ways. When you hover over a bid or ask field, the click result is displayed with the cursor; SELL on a bid field, BUY on the ask. This display can be turned off in the General section of Global Configuration by de-selecting Display Buy/Sell mouse-pointer over Bid and Ask cells. The glowing blue "selection glare" that highlights an active cell has been toned down, the transmit "T" that appears in the order line has been re-sculpted, and when you are in an order row, the field labels become bold so that you can see which labels apply to the values in the order row. The extraneous title "Order Management" has been removed from the below the tabset for a less cluttered look, and you can now adjust the column widths without having to go into the configuration page and uncheck Fit columns to window. Customers accessing TWS for the first time will not see the Welcome screen, but will land on a trading page that is populated with sample tickers.
Significant enhancements to the IB Risk Navigator include:
- Moving the plot checkboxes that previously displayed at the bottom of the plot, and the Date Scenario dropdown previously in the Report Selector to the right-click context menu within the chart. The context Date Scenario displays a list of expiration dates for any positions in your portfolio. To use a custom date that does not appear in the pre-defined expiration list, awaken the Custom Scenario from the View menu.
- The addition of the “Plot” dropdown selection list in the Report Selector, which drives the display in the P&L chart. Choose from the current display, Portfolio Value Change, which illustrates how the total value of your portfolio (or a subset of your portfolio) will change, based on a percent change in the price(s) of the underlying(s); Portfolio Value, which plots the P&L as above but also includes the market value for those positions in your portfolio for which price/risk cannot be calculated (mostly based on asset type) and that you can see in the Positions Not Included report; or Delta Position, which shows the delta of the portfolio or portfolio subset versus the underlying price.
- Support for a dynamic plot pricescan which is generated over the most recent prices. The previous versions only included a pricescan of the previous closing price(s). Notations on the plot lines indicate that the line is generated using the previous closing price (c_price) or using the most recent prices, indicated by the current time in military time.
- An Update button on the top of the new plot which updates the current dynamic prices on the plot.
- Modifications to the Portfolio Statistics report to separate out Futures positions, and to display "Opaque Positions" which are those for which we cannot calculate price/risk, but for which we do have current market value.
The following additions and modifications have also been included in TWS build 907:
- A problem with the combo creation process that resulted in no action or incorrect action when creating a butterfly combo has been fixed.
- An issue that resulted in the size of the Order Ticket being reduced when the user selected Enable Hidden Features has been fixed.
- The Use SSL secure login checkbox was not showing up on the login box as designed. This has been fixed.
- In the Market Scanners, the Time in Scan field was not being properly removed from the layout when it was removed from the page display, resulting in the rest of the columns being awkwardly and incorrectly resized. This has been fixed.
- The Yield Optimizer has been modified to allow the user to delete a ticker row. Previously the only way to delete a row was to close and re-open the tool.
