TWS Notes for 885
The enhancements
and modifications below are in build 885 of TWS. To identify
the build number, on the TWS Help menu
select About Trader Workstation.
Use the colored grouping squares in the titlebar of eligible TWS windows to link order and ticker actions between windows. Grouped "Destination" windows will reflect changes of ticker selection and order actions made from the "Source" window. You can see the window designation by holding your mouse over the group icon on a window. Designations include:
- Source - this is the controlling window and can only SEND.
- Destination - this is the receiving window, and can only RECEIVE actions from a window in its group, with Source permissions.
- Destination/Source - this window can both SEND to other windows in the group with Destination permissions, and RECEIVE actions from other windows in the group with Source permissions.
Example: Group the trading window (Source), the Chart window (Source/Destination), and the BookTrader window by selecting the same colored grouping box on both windows. Now select a new market data line in the trading window. The ticker in the Chart and BookTrader (all Destination windows in this group) will change their focus to reflect the new ticker selected in the group's Source window. Now select a new ticker in the Chart. This change will be reflected in the BookTrader since it has both Source and Destination permissions, but not in the trading window, which is only a Source window. When you close a window, its group affiliation is erased. Please note that windows can only be part of one group at a time.
The Account Window has been modified to include a new FX Portfolio section. This section replaces the Show FX Trades checkbox that was associated with the Portfolio section, and displays currency pair trades only. The value in the Position field only reflects trades executed in the FX market. Please note that these do not reflect real-time FX positions, since the non-base currency conversions are not included.
A new configuration page, Style, has been added to Global Configuration directly below the Display entry, and includes visual style settings such as colors and grid lines, fonts and sizes, and the color palette. In addition, a test image has been included to show how the different TWS color palettes will look on an actual page.
A new order type, Pegged to Midpoint, is now available for US Equity orders direct routed to Island. This order type pegs your order price to the NBBO midpoint. The limit price acts as a price cap, and the optional offset amount will be subtracted from the price for a buy order, and added to the price for a sell order to make the price less aggressive. The order price will be recalculated to aggressively peg the NBBO midpoint until the order executes or is cancelled.
For more details on Pegged to Midpoint orders, see the Order Types page.
If the option to Allow order to be routed and executed during pre-open session is checked in the Settings area of the Order Defaults configuration page, the order can work and execute during pre-open as well as regular trading hours.
A new checkbox to Highlight Cursor Price has been added to the realtime charts Settings page. Checking this box highlights the price under your cursor along the price axis of a chart.
A new context-sensitive Trading Class dropdown list has been added to the Combo Selection box. This field will only be visible when using an exchange that lists both European and American style options. European style options include an "E" on the end of the symbol. For example, the local class for IBE options on MEFFRV is I0 for American style, and I0E for European style. All other attributes for these contracts, including the underlying, expiration date, strike, and side, are identical. The Trading Class is also identified as part of the leg description on the Generic tab. To see this information from the trading window, right-click a market data line and select Contract Info, and then select Description to see the trading class symbol, and Details to see the Exercise Type.
The order summary for scaled orders is now displayed in the View Scale Progress box, which can be opened from the right-click menu on a scale order line. In addition, the order levels are now easier to follow, since the active Price and Open/Filled BUY values have a blue background, and the active Price and Open/Filled SELL values have a red background. For more information on Scale orders, see the TWS Users' Guide.
The tabbed Market Data and Order columns pages have been streamlined to make it easier to find, add and organize columns to your trading windows. The Available Columns now show only the categories when the layout manager is opened. Click the "+" sign to expand. If you prefer to see all available columns at once, click the Sort radio button at the bottom of the list, and all columns display in alphabetical order. Once you Add columns to the Shown list, use the Up/Down buttons on the side of the list to move the selected column up (to the left on the window) or down (to the right on the window).
- Two new Report menu items have been added to the Risk Navigator. Restore Factory Configuration will re-apply the default report and layout settings to your portfolio. Apply configuration for all pfs will apply any layout changes you made to your portfolio to all other portfolio and what-if portfolio files.
Open the IB Risk Navigator from the Analytics menu on the trading window or in the OptionTrader. For details on using the IB Risk Navigator, see the TWS Users Guide.
The following items have been fixed or modified in build 885 of TWS:
- The Realized P&L Spinner has been replaced with the Unrealized P&L Spinner. This market data column can be displayed from the Position and P&L category of the Layout manager.
- A new configurable Sound Event for Bulletin Received has been added to the Sound Manager.
- You can now select multiple contiguous rows from a Market Scanner page, and drag and drop them all to a trading page. Previously, only the first of the selected group of rows was being successfully dropped.
- A new warning message will display if you attempt to add more than 1000 rows of data to a trading page, for example, if you inadvertently elect to add all options for an underlying via the Contract Description box. Overloading a page in this way may result in significantly reduced functionality, or require that you shut down and restart TWS.
- The confirmation message that asks "Are you sure you want to exit?" will now be on by default. This message, called "Prompt when exiting" is configurable from the Global Configuration/Exit page.
- Previously, for Volatility combination orders with a hedge delta order, if TWS disconnected before the combo executed, the delta hedge order was lost on reconnect and did not get submitted when the combo executed. This issue has been fixed.
- The right-click order option Check Margin has been renamed to Preview Order.
- An issue that allowed TWS windows to be moved and then get stuck under the menu bar on a MAC, or under the task bar on Windows if the bar is moved to the top of the screen, has been fixed.
- If a "/" is accidentally added in front of a ticker, the row could not be removed. This has been fixed. TWS will automatically remove the "/" symbol if it's accidentally entered.
- The P&L columns now show valid data on the Pending page.
- The problem preventing expected Tab key navigation, specifically for contract selection, has been fixed.
- The Day Till Canceled time in force (DTC) is now available for VOL orders handled on the back end.
- The commands to Import Contracts and Export Contracts from the File menu have been fixed to accurately import/export all of the included contracts.
