TWS Notes for 882
The enhancements
and modifications below are in build 882 of TWS. To identify
the build number, on the TWS Help menu
select About Trader Workstation.
The Order Wizard is a dynamic, user-driven order creation tool that helps you to create, transmit and modify any kind of order, from the simplest buy limit to the most complex strategy-driven algorithm.
To open the Order Wizard, click the Order Wizard icon on the trading toolbar. If you have no orders on your trading page, the wizard displays simple starting instructions. Once you create an order, the wizard activates and the panel displays three main areas: the Summary row, the Categories list, and the Attributes pane.
- The Summary row along the top of the panel describes your current order and includes buttons to preview, transmit or cancel the order. Any changes you make to the order are instantly reflected in the Summary.
- The left pane displays a list of order-creation Categories, which drive the attributes displayed in the right pane.
- The right pane displays all of the Attributes associated with the highlighted order Category.
Use the wizard as a help screen to view different order categories and attributes. Use it as an order tool to create, modify and transmit orders simply by clicking an order category, then specifying or changing order attributes in the right pane. Instantly change your order type by clicking one of the "Make this a _______ order" links in the right pane, for example, "Make this a relative order." The wizard changes the order type, and immediately displays all attributes that can be applied to your new order. Changes you make using the Order Wizard are immediately reflected in the order line on your trading window, as well as in the Summary row of the wizard panel.
To hide the Order Wizard panel, click the Order Wizard icon on the toolbar, or the closing "x" in the top right corner of the panel. By default, a closed Order Wizard will automatically be enabled and displayed any time you create an order. To change this setting, use the General page from Global Configuration and select Show/Hide Manually in the Order Wizard area.
- The IB Risk Navigator now supports aggregation for both the VAR and the Portfolio Relative P&L Graph, on all leveraged ETFs, to more accurately reflect the price relationship between a leveraged ETF and its "underlying" index.
- A new scenario Drill Through feature has been added to the Measure by Price Change and Volatility Change report. This feature allows you to view risk scenarios in the context of a specific report. To apply drill through scenarios, start in the Measure by Price Change and Volatility Change report and right click a cell at the intersection of the desired dimension scenarios; for example you might select the cell whose value represents an underlying Price Change scenario of -10%, a Volatility Change scenario of 20% and an unchanged Interest Rate scenario. From this right-click menu, select Drill Through, and then choose a report. The report opens and its data reflects the selected risk scenario. To reset the report data to real-time, click the Reset Scenario button in the top right corner of the report.
Open the IB Risk Navigator from the Analytics menu on the trading window or in the OptionTrader. For details on using the IB Risk Navigator, see the TWS Users Guide.
The real-time charts have been enhanced to include:
- A new technical indicator, the Keltner Channel,
where we calculate the typical price and average true high/low range, and use the EMA to calculate the lower/middle/higher band. This indicator allows you to change the moving average period (10 day by default) and the deviation factor.
- A comprehensive trendline editing mode, Edit Chart, which is active by default when you open a chart and appears as a pencil icon on the charts toolbar. This mode enables you to draw, select, move, edit and copy trendlines without selecting any other trendline modes. The right-click edit menu for bars has also been enhanced to include all bar-editing features in one place, and to allow you to change the color of a bar with the color-picker.
- The ability to draw trendlines on sub-chart areas, such as the volume area.
- Two new editing buttons, Undo and Redo, which will undo the last editing action on a trendline, such as drawing a trendline, changing the color or thickness, etc or re-implement the last undone action. Note that these buttons do not affect actions performed on other chart features, such as deleting a bar or changing bar data.
- Automatic tiling of sub Charts - when you add a sub chart within the same chart frame, TWS will automatically tile the charts horizontally so that you immediately see all charts. If you have defined a tiling pattern, TWS will automatically tile any additional subcharts using this tiling pattern.
- The addition of two new "plot height" selection boxes for Volume and certain indicators, such as MACD, which appear on the bottom of a chart. The default size is small. You can choose Medium or Large if you want the plot to take more space and be more visible on the chart.
- The ability to toggle the Crosshair Mode on and off from the toolbar icon has been added. Click the icon to activate, click again to deactivate.
The Option Analytics window has been enhanced to display the delta, gamma, vega and theta values for puts as well as calls. Previously only the delta was calculated for both, and the remaining greek values were calculated only for calls.
The communication processes between the API and TWS have been reworked, and some TWS internals related to API order processing have been streamlined, resulting in significantly reduced turnaround time for order submission, acknowledgement from the exchange and order execution. For API C++ and ActiveX clients using API version 9.41
The following issues have been fixed in build 882 of TWS:
- Charts - The chart functionality of sharing trendlines among subcharts had several issues resolved, including:
only being able to draw one trendline when in shared mode; switching to shared mode deletes all existing trendlines from the sub charts; in shared mode, you can't draw parallel trendlines and can't move trendlines.
- API -
When orders were entered through the API with attached orders for target and close, and all had the Outside RTH attribute set to "true," the Outside RTH attribute was incorrectly changed to "false" by TWS for the attached target order when the original order executed. This has been fixed.
- IB Risk NavigatorSM - the stock Net Value in the Portfolio Statistics report was being calculated incorrectly.
- When entering information on the Order Ticket, the cursor would sometimes simply disappear and you could not enter information in any field.
- The Generic combo creation process has been fixed to respond with the correct selections when the leg type is defined.
