Trader Workstation (TWS) Installation Instructions

NOTE: You must have the Java plug-in (version 1.5 or higher) installed on your computer before you begin this installation process. Click here to download the free Java plug-in. IMPORTANT: If you are upgrading to Java 1.5, you must first remove all existing Java components from your PC. Please use the Add/Remove Programs feature on the Control Panel to remove the currently installed version and its components.

  1. Click here to begin the download.
    The "File Download" box will ask if you want to run or save the file. Click the "Save" button.



  2. The "Save As" box will appear prompting you to save the application. You may either change or accept the defaults, and click Save.



  3. The "File Transfer" box shows the estimated download time of the software application. Once the download is complete, you will either be prompted to click "OK" or your screen will return to the download page.




  4. If you saved the file to your desktop, find the TWS icon and double-click to start the installation. If you changed the directory, find the saved file and open it. Click Run when you are prompted to Save or Run.




  5. Click Next in the Welcome box to begin installing TWS.




  6. In the "Choose Destination Location" box change the directory only if necessary, and click "Next."




  7. Select your connection type, and check I am behind a proxy server if you connect to TWS from behind a firewall, proxy server, gateway or restricted router.
    • If you select only Internet, the next box will ask you to select a language.
    • If you select only WAN, the next box will ask you to select a server.
    • If you have checked the "behind a proxy" checkbox for either connection type, you will next need to enter proxy information, including a host or IP address and a port.




  8. After you have entered the necessary IP address and Port, click "Next."



  9. The "Installing" box shows the progress and estimated time left to complete the install. Installation times will vary from user to user based on their system and internet connection.




  10. Click "Finish" to complete the installation.




  11. Once you have completed the installation, the TWS icon will be displayed on your desktop. To log in to your IB account, simply double-click this TWS icon, then enter your username and password.
If you have not installed the required Java plug-in, the Trader Workstation will not load properly but will prompt you to download the plug-in. Click here, to download the Java plug-in.
