Recurring Transactions

When you set up deposit or withdrawal transactions, you can schedule the transaction to recur at monthly, quarterly or yearly intervals. Each recurring transaction requires that you first create a bank instruction, which can then be used for both recurring and non-recurring transactions. You can also view a list of all existing recurring transactions.

You can set up all deposit and withdrawal transaction types to be recurring transactions EXCEPT Direct Rollovers and Trustee-to-Trustee deposits, which are only available for IRA accounts.

You select the frequency of such recurring transactions by selecting the appropriate choice in the Frequency drop-down list on the Fund Transfers page in Funds Management.

When you select Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly as the Frequency, you also specify:

You can also specify that a recurring transaction has no end date and therefore, will not expire until you delete it, by selecting the None check box.

Creating Recurring Transactions

To create a recurring transaction

  1. Select Fund Transfers in the Funds Management menu.
  2. Select a Transaction and Method, then create a new bank instruction for the recurring transaction by selecting Add New Instruction from the Instruction list.

  1. Complete the bank instruction click Continue, then follow the instructions on the screen to verify the new instruction and confirm your request.

The new bank instruction will appear in the Instruction list and can now be used for a recurring transaction of the same transaction type and method. Note that Wire, Check, Bill payment and ACH from Bank located at US deposits can use the same bank instruction.
  2. Click Create Recurring Transaction.

  1. Select how often you want the transaction to recur by selecting Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly from the Frequency list. You can also select One-time (default) to create a one-time, non-recurring transaction.

If you are in middle of creating a deposit or withdrawal transaction (that is, you selected a Transaction, and/or a Method and/or an Instruction), and then you click the Create Recurring Transaction button, the Frequency drop-down list will be disabled.

If your account is capable of internal funds transfers, and you select a frequency from the Frequency drop-down list, then you will no longer see Internal Transfers in the Transaction drop-down list. This is because recurring transactions apply only to deposits and withdrawals.
  2. Enter the first date on which the recurring transaction should be processed in the Start Date field.

For start and end dates, click the field to display a drop-down calendar, which lets you quickly select dates without having to type them into the fields.

Note:  In the event the transaction falls on a US non-business day under normal circumstances, Interactive Brokers will process the request on the business day prior to the recurring transaction date. In the event this processing leads to multiple withdrawals during the same month, the account holder will be assessed Interactive Brokers' withdrawal fees.

  1. Enter the last date on which the recurring transaction should be processed in the End Date field (this is the expiration date of the recurring transaction), or select the None check box to let the transaction recur without expiring.
  2. Create the deposit or withdrawal transaction that you want to recur. Select the bank instruction you created for the recurring transaction from the Instruction list.

Viewing Existing Recurring Transactions

All bank instructions for recurring transactions are displayed in the Recurring Transaction section of the Fund Transfers page.

To view a list of existing recurring transactions, on the Fund Transfers page, click Recurring Transactions. The section expands to display all saved bank instructions for recurring transactions.

Canceling a Recurring Transaction

To cancel a recurring transaction, click the corresponding red X in the list of recurring transactions on the Fund Transfers page. Clicking the X removes this recurring transaction instruction from the system and cancels all future recurring transactions that use the instruction.

If the recurring transaction you cancel is already in process, it will not be canceled when you click the X on this page. You must also cancel the transaction in process on the View Transaction History page.
